What are the corsos like to live with? I've always liked the look of them. I have a tibetan mastiff and a shar-pei - I love the independent and aloof nature of the oriental breeds.
Hi Phoebe, the Corso is a great breed to live with. They are a very intellagent breed, and I find once you put the time in they are very willing and easy to train. But you must put the time into the training and also socializing. As the Corso is a very protective breed I believe it a must to do as much socializing with it as possible. They bond in a big way to their owner(s),and like to be with you as much as possible. They are always weary of strangers, and like to keep their eye on everything that is happening around them.I personaly find the Corso a stunning breed, and they have a very nobel presence about them.

Sounds a lot like my TM puppy, personality wise, although I don't think TM's understand the concept of training. The word 'obey' isn't in their vocabulary - you ask them nicely and they consider your request and get back to you about it in due time - he-he! They will do as you ask most of the time, but as they've been bred for thousands of years to think for themselves, you can't expect them to have the same agenda as a GSD or a Rottie.
Corsos are beautiful looking dogs and I hope thy don't become the next 'hard' dog like the Neo's and DDB have. I might have one some day as they look my kind of dog.
Me I have two Corsos, they are a brilliant breed to live with :)
I wouldnt really describe a Corso as aloof, they are a dog thats always on the move and likes something to do, they can be a very serious breed and not one for the first time Molosser owner. It took me years to pluck up the courage to own one (because I knew how much work needed to be done as to regards training them) after years of owning and loving Bullmastiffs, and still loving them ;) My life would not be complete without a Corso by my side :)
Welcome to the forum Jay :) BTW you cant post pics on here.
Hi MollMoo,tell me about your Corso's.There sex, color, age's,there breeding and so on.
Hi MollMoo,I just coped on to who you are.A bit slow I know. All these different name's on different forums,is to much for my brain. It's hard enough trying to remember my own forum name's.
So MollMoo,tell me about your Corsi.MY Corso is a male, jet black with a white fleck on his chest. He is a year old.His sire is Campo Di Cavallo Panther, and his dam is (something like) Telesto Ria at Orobos. He is a lovely dog.He love's every dog,and has never as yet shown any aggression towards other dogs.He is wary of people, but once he knows you,you are his pal.He is a very happy go lucky dog, always has the tail wagging, and always happy to see me.I bought him from a breeder in Norrige.I love to get some pic's of his parents, but so far I have only being able to get a head shot of his sire.So if anyone has any pic's of the Corsi I have name'd,please, please could you let me know. Sorry MollMoo I found out you not who I tought you were.I get people mix'ed up all the time.
Hi corsogirl, you must keep so busy on all these forums, good to see someone I reconise. And to answear the question;what is the Corso like to live:the Corso is a stunning breed,I have had no indoor problems with this breed. They are so intellagent and willing to learn once the time is put in to training.I also have the 2 Staffys and he gets on great with them.He is extreamly dog friendly, and love's nothing more than running around the local parks with all the other dogs;big or small, male or female he love's them all.He is very weary of strangers, and the Corso has very strong protection instint.S
Hi corsogirl, nice to see someone I know.
It's a shame pic'c can't be posted.
Hello Nemasis,
I'm sorry to have been so long in replying but have been having technical problems. I TOTALLY agree with your views on the changes, and in many cases the ruination, of breeds. Until relatively recently I had no strong opinions on this as all my dogs bar one have come from dog rescue but some time ago I came across a Crufts winners book from the 1950s with photographs of the then champions. Many of them showed so little resemblence to current breed standard it was shock.
Small dogs have become smaller and hairier, large dogs bigger and (in most cases) hairier and/or with strange, exaggerated postures. Muzzles have become so flat in bull and miniature breeds that they can scarcely breath and walk at the same time. Yet, as you say, if breed standards are fixed, how has this come about? I always suspected Crufts was nothing more than a beauty contest and this just confirmed it. I saw with dismay some years ago that Border Collies were now being KC registered and my immediate thought was, 'There's another good breed ruined then'. As someone clever once said, I'd rather have an inch of dog than a yard of pedigree.
Your 100% right. There are a few reg's that are sticking to the true and healtier type dogs. They award their show placeings to the fitter well in shape type dog. Also do weight pulling,a-frame,and other such activetys to show the dogs condiction. There is one I know of in the U.K.,AND SOME IN THE U.S.A...There could be some more here in the U.K.,BUT I KNOW OF ONE.
