Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Puppy's Aren't doubling their weight?

Hi,
I have read that puppies should double their weight but as of yet the puppies are not doubling their weight.  They look a little bigger and only gain 1/4 of their original weight.  Should I be concern?

It is almost a week now.  The puppies are eating and don't sound like they are distressed.

Actually except when there was a very small litter in my breed I ahve never had pups double their weight ij my breed.

What breed are they and waht size when born?

My pups are usually around 12 ounces and I am happy with a gain of an ounce a day in the first week, usually about 1 1/2 ounces a day in the second week, 2 ounces a day in the third week, and then a pound a week the next week, and by the time they are 8 weeks they are gaining 2lb a week.

Don't panic Martha - things are rarely textboox. As long as the puppies are plump, content and gaining weight rather than losing it there's nothing to worry about.

Hi Martha, mine took about 10 days-ish to double their birth weight, and I had some that seemed to be a little slower than others gainign weight but by about 5 weeks they were roughly all around the same weight except for one little one who was always a bit smaller than the rest :-)
