We have 2 whippet brothers who are nearly five months old. The little one(who was the runt) is a bit delicate and we have to watch what he eats or he gets the runs. His ears were gungey and smelly so treated him with thornit and they are alot better but he still smells, especially his breath. They are both fed more or less the same and the bigger pup doesn't have any problems. He is lively and happy in himself and loves his food. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

You could try feeding some natural yogurt, it does sound as if you dogs imunity is not coping at the moment, I would expect it to improve as he gets older. Jackie H
Smelly breath is generally caused by mouth or stomach problems, diabetes or liver/kidney (can never remember which) dysfunction can also cause smelly breath.
At 5 months he could well still be teething - does he have a broken or bad puppy tooth, has he been eating something unsavoury such as well rotted grass cuttings - how does his faeces compare to his brothers as it should look very similar if they are eating the same foods.
I heard of a pup recently that had very smelly breath and it turned out to have a small stick stuck across the roof of its mouth that was digging its way into the gums and causing a very smelly infection
