Last night we noticed that Breeze had a lot of ticks in her ears and nose and not anywhere else. We got most of them out, but I was wondering if there was anything you could get to stop them clinging onto her. Sam does not have this problem for some reason they seem to like her though. Never having such a big garden with lots of trees and shrubs, I don't know how to avoid this problem as I don't want to put her through what we did last night, the poor girl hated it obviously.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks

I have the same problem with my garden, full of ivy, conifers and bushes in the hedges and my 2 always like to roll round in em so they usually get covered in ticks, although this year hasnt been too bad. I buy them flea/tick collars, you still get the odd one or two but they make a huge difference! Hope this helps x

Hiya
Not had any ticks on my boy yet, but in case I do- what is the best way to get them off?
Rach
We used tweesers last night, then we burnt the ticks as its the best way to destroy them.

Although I have not had a huge problem, I have only ever used a squirt of Frontline spray directly on the tick. It's killed and falls of naturally without risk of leaving head parts buried in the skin to cause infection. This is the only method I could promote.

frontline like previously said. Also you can buy a tick remover so there's less chance of leaving the head behind - yuk!
Hi Sarah, There are a few products you can try.
IMO the best one is the Scalibor collar: www.scalibor.co.uk
This is quite a new product and is only available from your vet at the moment, but it is an absolutely excellent product which will prevent ticks for 6 months. It also costs only £8.
The spot on products like Frontline and Advantix are also good, but they need to be re-done monthly and they cost considerably more for 6 months than the collar.
So my advice is to call your vet and ask him to order you a collar.
ps It is stretchy rubber so if it gets caught on something it will easily come off - kind of like a cat's collar works.
