Just wondered what everyone who has Danes feeds them on?? As now Blue is 6mths old i was thinking about switching him onto Burns as ive been told this is a good food - especially for Danes, thats if he takes to it, Ive read all the ingredients and it looks tempting enough for me! lol :D Even though his done really well on Beta, id like to put him on a food that i think is more suitable for him long term if you know what i mean, do you think im right or wrong to do this? Any advice apreciated :)

Willis and Phoebe have:
Morning:
Burns or Pasta plus 2 packs of ND with some Tuna OR Raw Mince with Tuna
Evening:
Burns or Pasta plus raw green tripe.
They also have any table scraps plus the occasional egg - they are literally a couple of dustbins :D
Hi, an ex-neighbour who moved away 5 years ago from me, bred Great Danes and all her dogs were beautiful and well looked after.
She told me once what she fed them whenever i asked her:
She fed her puppies: Beta Puppy food, with a small amount of Goat/Butter/Cows Milk , then in the evening Tuna with the beta dog food or a small amount of cooked chicken or liver in with the Beta.
Her adults: She fed them twice a day on Beta Adult food, with lots of liver or chicken or tuna.
Thanks for that, i have no complaints on how Blue looks, he looks beautiful, its just i wondered on the ingredients, i mean should you go by ingredients or how your dog looks? Or both?
Hi Blues mum, I have no experience of feeding Great Danes but generally if your dogs doing well on a particular food stick with it. The whole 'what to feed' is really up to what works best for your dog. I do go by ingredients and look for one that contains as little or no junk (Atrificial colours, flavours ,preservatives, soya, wheat etc) as possible and one with a good meat content. Also look for foods that are naturally preserved . Burns is an excellent food and I know many people who feed it with superb results. Beta isn't on my lists of good foods as it isn't naturally preserved and has a high cereal content. But everyone to there own! Other foods which I rate are nature diet, Wafcol Salmon and potatoe,Arden Grange and JWB.
I think im going to finish up the bag of Beta ive got at the mo and then buy a small bag of Burns (Canine extra?) and see how he goes, just incase he dont like it, dont want to be stuck with a 15k bag of food! :)
iI Use Trophy They give a full breakdown of ingredients and their hypo allergenic range is good (one for large breeds. Not one of the most well know brands but they do offer Free deliveries and a full money back guarantee on their products so you wont be left with a bag you cant use -Jo www.trophypetfoods.co.uk
Thanks Jo, that looks really good too!! Il definately bear that in mind :)
Hi, Doesnt everyone want a nice looking dog ? Doesnt everyone want a healthy, happy dog ?
Well i would and its all about feeding and excerise and if the dog is happy, it reflects not only from his behaviour but also from his coat and looks.
And im sure your Great Dane, Blue, looks beatiful :)
Hi Mel, Both my 2 were fed on beta, they lost intrest in it, so I changed them on to burns canine extra, one was ok on it and they other one lost 3 kilo's in weight over 2 months, she should have had 300 grams a day but I had to increase it to 450 grams and still didn't gain her weight back. I now feed them both on Autarky and they are doing great on it. If you do change to burns watch his weight, as this has happened to a few people on here.

Hiya Mel, mine are fed winalot mixer and raw tripe and look excellent!
The only reason i have ever changed foods is because a brand has no longer been available in the shops or its got too expensive.
I wouldn't say change unless theres a need to, generally i go by if they look good on it and like it.
Done us well so far :)
Hi Sarah :) Yeah he does look great, and enjoys his food (especially when he gets extras) :D
Hi mel,
i feed ruby on Autarky and shes doing really well on it :)
