Hi,

This is my first post nice to be here,

we have 2 sibes a bitch and a dog and 3 Alaskan Malamutes 1 dog and 2 bitches they all live together indoors,  we are also waiting for our first liter due in 11 days and counting :) I want to keep two pups but my husband is being practical and say's we should only keep one,

Our daughter aged 15 shows all our dogs, but they prefer to be out training or at a rally, which is running through the woods from one dog mallie up to 6-8 dog sibe teams  great fun for all the family

Hi Staggan I`m guessing your daughter is Char

don`t worry i`m not a freak (well not much of one) i know her from the icebay forum, I can`t wait to see piccys of Monsoons babies and you definately need to keep two pups one of each :)

we`re getting our first malamute in the spring and we can`t wait
- By staggan [gb] Date 12.10.05 20:57 UTC
Hi

Yes your right everyone knows Charlie :)

We cant wait for the pups although I have read every book on breeding, whelping, etc I still dont think I know enough :)
when do you get your pup ? and who from?
staggan
- By Cyrus [gb] Date 12.10.05 21:18 UTC
We`re hoping for a bitch pup from Lorna Bartletts Star at ArticRainbow, shes hoping to mate Star in the spring so looking at a late spring early summer pup it can`t come quick enough

- By nightshadow [gb] Date 13.10.05 11:38 UTC
hi there staggen...what ages are your sibes?
Does anyone out there have the same problem as i have with my male....he can be really nasty towards other male dogs.
he never used to be...he used to play with every dog he met  but now when im out with him if another male dog comes near us he goes mad.
he,s the same when my 11 year old son is walking him but towards people, which can be a good thing  ( he has never bit anyone and i dont think he would he just bares his teeth and all his fur goes up).
Do you think it could be an age thing...he is 13 month old.
When he is out with me he is very very friendly with people...its strange

Hi
At the mo I own one 10 year old husky male. We lost his kennel mate last month at the age of 11. so our house is very quiet just now. We will be getting a pup in due course but not sure when! We have been going to rallies for almost 15 years though. I love the atmosphere and the fact that the dogs just love what they are doing.

- By nightshadow [gb] Date 13.10.05 11:27 UTC
hi there to all you fellow husky lovers out there.......i too would love hundreds of these dogs.
when mine have pups im sure i will end up keeping 1 or 2.
this is the first time i have ever been in a chat room thingy  so please be patient with me.
- By nightshadow [gb] Date 13.10.05 11:31 UTC
i would love to rally or show my dogs but im not sure where to start.these dogs need the job of it dont they
I find mine  especially the girl gets bored easily  and when she is bored she gets up to all sorts of mischief....just like kids!!!!!!!
rebel...the boy is far too lazy to get up to mischief...unless shadow tells him to that is. SHE IS THE BOSS.
- By janeandkai [gb] Date 13.10.05 11:51 UTC

>>i would love to rally or show my dogs

If your wanting to race them why not have a look at the sibe club's website.Lots of info there :)

- By nightshadow [gb] Date 13.10.05 12:05 UTC
hi there janeandkai...i will do just that thanks....my problem is i live in manchester and as far as i know there is nowhere round here to race or rally.....
- By staggan [gb] Date 13.10.05 12:20 UTC
Hi Cyrus

Star is beautiful she will certainly have wonderful pups :)

If anyone wants to find out about rallies you can go to www.Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain, Alaskan Malamute Working Association (AMWA) ABSA, BSHRA these all have working ralies include sibes, Alaskan Malamutes, Greenland dogs Samoyds, all working breeds.

Everyone's very fiendly and helpful with newcommers to rallies and the dogs love it, even if they dont run they enjoy howling with all the other dogs :)

There are rallies all over the country we o from the New forrest in Dorset Hampshire borders to Avimore in Scotland they are everywhere !!!

>>from the New forrest in Dorset Hampshire borders to Avimore in Scotland

There's 2 more even further north than that aswell... culbin and the black isle :)
- By janeandkai [gb] Date 13.10.05 12:20 UTC
There are bound to be a few meets you could get to. I am up in the north east of scotland and we have fewer meets up here but i can still get to atleast 3. you may have to travel a bit but its worth it.We dont compete as kai isnt old enough yet.
have a look here and click on current season on the left hand side. it shows all the race dates and places for all the clubs. :)
- By nightshadow [gb] Date 13.10.05 13:06 UTC

hi there busydoggs........sorry you coulnt get my homepage to work......i will look into that.....im new to computers so dont really know what im doin........lol
- By nightshadow [gb] Date 13.10.05 18:59 UTC
OH MY GOD........i have just had the fright of my life..........im one of the first people to say that huskies are ok off lead ( i take mine to a huge ENCLOSED field) when tonight while out walking my 2  ON THE LEAD....rebels lead catches shadows and sets her free......so off she goes straight onto a busy main road into the path of an oncoming car....
The driver had no chance of stopping and hit shadow full force on her side......sent her flying.
Luckily and i say LUCKILY she wasnt hurt  she just got up and walked straight back to all sorry for herself.......I was terrified  still shaking now and it happened at 5 oclock.....my poor baby
- By Cyrus [gb] Date 13.10.05 19:13 UTC
I would still take her to the vets to be checked out NightShadow she could have damage to her chest cavity that wont show apart from on an x-ray they can go downhill quite quickly probably  be best to be on the safe side
- By nightshadow [gb] Date 13.10.05 19:18 UTC
hi cyrus....i phoned the vet and she said as long as she is up and running about she should be ok.....but i think that was because it was her hometime and they dont offer an after hours service........she seems happy enough but i will keep my eye on her and get her to the vets first thing am...
- By caileag [gb] Date 14.10.05 07:23 UTC
she definatly needs to go to the vet for a check. hopefully she will be ok.
where abouts do you stay nightshadow??? there is a teach in about working sled dogs at fort william on the 22nd/23rd october. its really good and you can meet up with lots of other owners. if you want more info email me or ask through the other board i sent you too.

let us know how shadow is after her checkup.

and p.s i cant believe any vet giving that advice after a dog has been hit by a car!! unbelievable!
- By nightshadow [gb] Date 14.10.05 12:18 UTC
hi there caileag,  shadow is fine thanks...had her at a different vets this morning and was given the all clear  thank god.
I think my old vet just couldnt be bothered yesterday because she is leaving the practice today to go to australia!!!!!!!!!
Doesnt help my baby though.....as i say though she has now been given the thumbs up....i cant believe her luck.
She is very scared of traffic though now, ever time a car went past us she ducked between my legs....poor little mite.
By the way i live in manchester.
- By caileag [gb] Date 14.10.05 16:46 UTC
thats excellent news!! glad she is ok! hopefully she will get used to traffic again in time.

we live near glasgow so a bit far away to meet up for a walk. there should be lots of events near you though if you have transport. you should visit the sibe club of great britain and have a llok at their rally calendar. if you can get to a rally its a great way to meet husky owners.
- By nightshadow [gb] Date 14.10.05 15:44 UTC
hi to all........is anyone ever online here ??????????
- By Malakai [gb] Date 13.10.05 20:17 UTC
Come along to Delamere forest on the 5th November. It's a night rally but people are there from mid-afternoon :)
- By sharonb [gb] Date 13.10.05 22:53 UTC
Hi all I have 2 bitches Keatah 8 and her her daughter Star 3. I have a male pup Bailay he is 7 months old and very big. They all have totally different personalities.
Keatah is very confident and the boss. Star is a mummys girl does everything Keatah does. She is fairly calm for a Sibe. Bailey is very greedy and clumsy. He is scared of almost anything he is not familiar with.
They are all very similar in colour. Grey. Keatah as a brown and blue eye. Star as blue eyes and Bailey as brown eyes.
If anyone wants to chat my email is sharonb_69@hotmail.com you can also add me to your msn.
- By shedog [gb] Date 14.10.05 07:12 UTC
Hi, i have 4 huskies, 2 males and two females, all different but all wonderfull.Sky is 4 and a real gent (he is my baby though)you would not know you had him until you show him a collor, lead or harness.such a quiet gentle soul. The older female is 2 1/2 now she is a little bonkers, bounces off walls if she is having a mad hour but such a character she is my daughters baby not too keen on strangers outside and sometimes shows a guarding instinct(think she may be crossed )Then i have litter brother and sister at 1 years old who have had a roll reverse in their characters little girl has turned from naughty little miss into the perfect dog while her brother has gone from cute teddy bear to a real cheecky boy who will chance his paw at anything. But thats what makes them great they are all different.
- By nightshadow [gb] Date 14.10.05 12:42 UTC
hi shedog.....my dogs can sometimes show a slight gaurding instinct when out with my 11 year old son and they are full ped.....
i think they just want to protect the owner....none of them would ever bite anyone but the male has a mean growl.
your older female sounds as loony as my female....she jumps about like she is on springs for about an hour a day.....it drives me mad.
my male is far too lazy to join in so he just looks at her as if she is an alien......it can be quite funny to watch the looks he gives her.

this is to all of you.........are all your dogs house dogs or do they live outside?
my girl will happily stay outside for hours no matter what the weather but the male likes his home comforts.......hates the rain.
- By nightshadow [gb] Date 14.10.05 12:34 UTC
hi sharonb....i tried to send you an email but it was returned saying the email address is wrong.
i dont have msn but do have aim so if you do feel free to contact me or email me at hunichol@aol.com.
your dogs sound lovely and i would love to see some pics if you have any......i am a bit worried about the size of my girl......she is 12 month old and still looks tiny. i know males are bigger but rebels head is 3 times the size of shadows.......are your girls small against the male?
- By sweetiepie Date 14.10.05 17:50 UTC
Have you had a look at the breed standard?

http://www.siberianhuskyclub.com/abouthuskies/breedstandard

It could be your boy is on the large side rather than she is particularly small, so you would be best comparing them to the standard. As long as she's healthy I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you want to show her. She may be lagging behind a bit due to her poor start in life, but she will catch up very soon now you've sorted out her diet.
- By nightshadow [gb] Date 14.10.05 18:53 UTC
hi there sweetiepie, thanks for your reply it has put my mind at ease a bit.
i have looked at the breed standered and it says  measure to the withers!!!!
Call me DUMB but i i have no idea what the withers are......if its the shoulders then she is about right and the boy is big  but who knows!!!!!!!!
Im not too bothered about showing her...rebel yes i would love to show
- By sharonb [gb] Date 17.10.05 11:33 UTC
Hi nightshadow cant see why you couldnt email me, not to worry Il mail you. Dont worry too much over your dogs size how tall is she. Keatah is 21 inches a good average for a bitch Star is 23 inches she is tall for a bitch. Bailey is 26inches and is nearly 8 months old. So as you can see he is much bigger with still some growing to do.
- By sharonb [gb] Date 17.10.05 11:35 UTC
Sorry just read your post over again, Withers is shoulders. Dont know about you but I cant mine to stay still long enough to measure. I watch out for them standing near a certain part of something then i measure to the mark.
- By nightshadow [gb] Date 17.10.05 19:15 UTC
hi sharon...i aint got a clue why i couldnt email ya, i will try again i may have just been having one of those days...lol
Had shadow at her normal vet today for her 12 month check up and she said shadow is a good height and weight....must just be me!!!!!
but then again rebel is huge so she is bound to look small really aint she....she is 21 inches and just under 20 kilo.
rebel towers her...dont know how tall he is ...she just about comes up to his belly!!!!! and he weighs 39 kilo...like i said huge.
Thats why is nickname is lumpy ...with affection of course....i dont know...dogs!!!  kids!!!!!!! all major worry   he he
- By zalamazu [gb] Date 17.10.05 18:49 UTC
Height standard
Bitches 20 to 22 inches
Dogs 21 to 23.5 inches
- By shedog [gb] Date 20.10.05 07:10 UTC
Hi are you dogs related cos they look so similar to each other?
- By nightshadow [gb] Date 27.10.05 14:18 UTC
hi she dog...was you asking me if my dogs were related?
its hard to know who is replying to who in here.
my dogs are not related....my boy is from bolton and my girl from pontefract....there is only 5 weeks between them
- By sharonb [gb] Date 28.10.05 15:01 UTC
Nightshadow. I got your email. Did I reply if not I will do. Such a daft question but kids are off school and Im not sure. Seems our dogs are strongly relataed. I have most of your dogs pedigrees in mine. Lapakta is in most of my dogs.
