Hi - I think he is just playing, from what you describe.  He is treating you like you're a puppy playmate, because he doesn't know any better.

Here is a good link which had been recommended on these boards before:  http://www.jersey.net/~mountaindog/berner1/bitestop.htm

Hi! Aren't puppy teeth sharp? However you'll be glad to know that your pup is behaving perfectly normally! As you've discovered, pushing a puppy away is considered a great game, and encourages them to play harder - so pushing him away must stop. Sitting on the ground is also seen as an encouragement to play with you as he would his siblings - and puppies play rough. This will carry on until he learns that humans are weedy softies who must be handled gently - this article is very helpful.

Hi agree totally with the other posters, my mums rottie Bella when she was a puppy was awful she'd be play fighting and i'd be sitting on the floor by the fire and she'd come up behind me pounce on me growling and start pulling my hair, he he he he.  She's a wonderful dog now and has calmed down alot she's now three.

Warm regards Susan

Hi, I had the exact same problem with my dobie pup, he always seem to chew on me.

it was that bad, we had to get advice from the vet, his advice was to feed him from your hand.

So i fed him from my hand, you know treats and it seemed to work but not entiry.

But what did work was whenever he bited me or anyone he was sent out and placed in his room ( the back hall )
and kept there behind his gate for 5 minutes and then he was allowed back in. i kept on doing this and he stopped because he knew if he was going to bite, its back to his bedroom.

Puppies always bite because their teeth are cutting through their gums, so just give him a bone to chew on, you can get bones designed especialy for puppys at any Pet Shop, sooner or later they will get the idea, that the bones there for them to chew, not your hand.

I went through the very same thing with my rottie pup and even now (6 months) she sometimes wants to mouth me. You have to be stern in your voice and ignore his behaviour (tone of voice I found was critical).

The other thing that worked for us is giving her a time out. She would be put in another room where she can still see us, but was not let in with us for 3 mins, we kept doing this until she knew what behaviour was acceptable. I was so upset at the beginiing that she was only doing this to me and not my OH, but then I realised I had to show her who was boss and for the last month, she has been great with me. I still get the tug of war with my clothes every now and then when we are in the garden, but I try to have a toy in my other hand or I turn around and walk away, she soon lets go. All she wants to do is play.

I would agree with the other responses, the more you push him away, the more he will think its a game and keep doing it. Trust me its worth it in the end. Last night watching TV, I had my little girl lying on me wanting a cuddle.

I am not an expert in behaviour or Rotties as this is my first, but this was my experience.
Good luck
