Topic Dog Boards / General / labrador agility/training in London

Hi
My lab is nearly 15 months old now and she is really very bright.  I have taught her a lot of things but I feel that she continuously wants to learn more and more.  Does anybody know of a labrador obedience/agility (I am not sure what it would be called really) club in North London that they could recommend to take her to, or how I can go about finding one?
Thanks

Hi,

I'd suggest you have a look at this website www.apdt.co.uk

The APDT are committed to using reward based methods and kind methods of training, not harsh methods.  They have a list of clubs in various areas, so see what's near you.

Hi,

I don't know of any Clubs that do both Agility and Obedience in North London but I do know of and Agility Club that runs classes on a Tuesday evening.

You can't really start agility training until your dog is around 2 years old in terms of jumping but you can teach the weave poles, tunnels etc the equipment that dosen't require your dog to jump.

I think you would really enjoy Agility but you do need a certain level of Obedience in terms of control so you are best to start with Obedience classes and then move on to Agility.

I have PM you the details of the Agility Club.

Goodluck and have fun!

Sorry to put my oar in but you can start agility training from the age of 12 months.  It is sensible to wait a bit for large boned breeds but at 15 months I think your lab should be more than able to do agility.  Afterall the early training is usually on very low jumps any way.  My lab started at a year and has had no ill effects.

You probably won't find a club specialising in training labs but there are plenty of clubs out there that will train all  breeds.  Have a look at www.agilitynet.com for general info. and clubs.

Good luck
