last night i went to help a luncher in whelp.while i was there this lilltle dog with a big personality came trotting out of a home,
it was a teckel.

as anyone got any datail on this breed only 328 register in uk in 2004,
just wander beacuse they are a blood hunting dog are they good in a family home as well this one was so layed back.

just need more detail on them.

I asked the same question awhileback Briedog, there's thread on CD somewhere with lots of info :)

just spoken to a breeder of this breed, yes they are a wire haired dauchound.but teckel are from  european blood lines,

and you got 3 group that they can go into in the breed.a,b.c which  is listed on their web site www.teckel-society.co.uk

very nice lady i spoke to give me alot of imformation on the breed.

i think i going to be hook on this breed too.

I have met standard wire haired working dachs in Europe and they appeal greatly  as do their British wire cousins.  Teckel is simply the German word for Dachhunds.  Mostly people mean the workign ones when they use it here or in USA and some are part bred (at least in the USA).

Dachs are very popular pets in Europe and the leggier and shorter backs they seem to help make them a very fit and active oen too.

The standard wires I ahve met in the UK have had super personalities.  They seem to have a bit of air under them too.

Can I ask - could they be shown in the UK, either as Dachs or in some other category?  Or would they be v unsuccessful due to being leggier and shorter backs?

The local rescue centre in my area is called Teckels!

if they are reg with the kc as a stander wire dach then they can be shown under the kc rules that what this lady was saying to day i hope i got it right

Teckel is the German word for Dachshund. The ones in the UK refered to as Teckels are descended from German working stock Dachshunds, mainly Wire haired but also some smooth. If KC registered they could be shown in the UK. There have been various dachshund imports from Europe in recent years, and some exports to Europe - wiltst the breed standards differ slightly in proportions and size GOOD examples of each type can win anywhere. As with any breed it is only when more is considered better and exaggeration starts that things move apart more. Some of the Teckel Society registerd dogs have UK showdog blood there too.
So whilst some may say Teckels are a rare and new breed actually there are about 30000 of them in the UK.

I don't have any particular feelings about Teckels, but looking at registrations under the link, I'm a bit put out to see that 4 of them are using my KC Affix

Teckel is the European name for all Dachies.  Not so sure what it stands for in this country though.

If you get a Spanish Dog Magazine Dachies are called Teckels not Dachschunds (Still can't spell :d)

By the way Terri do you want anything from Spain as I'm going on Friday and I think I'm going to a dog show at the weekend!

Carmen is a beautiful mover too!  She's gorgeous. 

I've fallen for the teckel too, met a lovely 5 mth standard wire on the beach this week and I want one!!

No briedog - Teckel is Dachshund. Those who have the breed as working packs just seem to prefer to use this term as the Germans say Teckel. All Dachshunds should be able to work.
