Hi

Can I have some of your views. I had my bitch scanned last week and the vet thought they felt a puppy and ultrasound they thought they saw a puppy. it was a black blob with to white things moving up and down in it.
Well today she had another scan and they saw nothing and palpation felt nothing.
Yet her body sides have thickened out and her teats are really big and hanging to the floor. They look different to my other bitch who had a false preganancy.
So is it possible she still might be pregnant, she is now 40 days and not fat, but could she still be preganant?

It is possible, but more than likely she is no longer pregnant. It sounds like she may have absorbed any puppies. :( I know it's not what you want to hear. I would still treat her as if she is though, as you never know ;) My bitch missed twice before I decided that she wasn't going to fall pregnant again, but there were other underlying problems. Very disappointing.

This is quite a common occurance in Basset Hounds. Bassets love to have phantom and false pregnancies. Please watch her very carefully in case she gets a pyometra - especially a closed one. This can be quite dangerous and lead to the bitch being speyed.

If your bitch has reabsorbed she will still show signs of being pregnant, in most cases the bitch shows little or no distress.  Usually they recover in a week or so.  Occassionally they develope severe symptomatic reactions.
Keep a close on her.
Are her seasons normal?
