Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Will she ever calm down!

I have a staffy bitch who is coming up to the big 'first' birthday in a fortnight, will she ever calm down???????? She is such a loving little thing but just gets carried away at times and has no fear whatsoever, had a few bumps and scrapes already. My last dog was a staffy cross and was so sedate u had to poke him to see if he was awake! any suggestions??????

This nuttiness is an intrinsic part of the breed.  She may mellow in middle age, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

My Jozi (not a Staff) has always been very brash, lively and in your face, and I suddenly realised that she is 6 years old next month and doesn't look to have any intention of changing :D

Her two year old daughter on the other hand is quite the lady just like her Grandmother.

Remember that she's still a puppy! In the show system they're puppies up until their first birthday, then they're Juniors for another 6 months. So expect immature behaviour for some time yet - my breed isn't expected to even start acting like a grown-up till they're about 7 or 8! By the way, is she spayed?

never a dull moment in my house.
try  doing  a little show jumping ( sorry dont know the real name for it )  but they love it and it tiers them out.  :)

We have the same problems with the newfoundlands, PJ is nearly 7 and he is still a puppy in his eye's, we have just had a newfie come back to us at nearly 3 years old and she has more energy now than sje had at 8 weeks when she left. Thanks goodness the Tm's are laid back.

My friend has 4 staffys the youngest being 9 months old...she always says they will calm down eventually! The oldest is very hyper and she has one that is very laid back, they are all so different but my collie/cross did calm down after his first year so live in hope
