I have got a 10 month Yorkie who is now quite well trained and quite a rounded individual.

My brothers neighbours staffy got out and she got caught and has had pups, they dont know what the father was. They are now giving these pups away.  Firstly Im annoyed because he has already given one of the pups to another neighbour because it was the biggest pup which he thinks means it can go earlier?? yeah makes the mind boggle and the blood boil doesnt it!  Im almost positive its too young to be took from its mum and litter mates.

Anyway I digress...  Im thinking of taking one of the pups....  what do you all think???  We want another dog and Arthur (yorkie, can I just say hes not a breed standard yorkie hes huge think his dad was a great dane) loves dogs.  I think we could give a good home to one of these little mites that otherwise could go to a dubious home.

If you think you have the time and training and love to give to each i say go for it, you may get a few behaviour and health probems with the new pup if it hasnt been bought up correctly but if you think you can do it offer one of the poor little things a loving home.

It's hard to advise but bear in mind as you don't know what the sire is like, this could grow into a huge dog - what if it was a GSD, Rott, Akita as a dad?  Even a Lab - often that cross is regarded as "pit bull type" - so you could be setting yourself up for a very difficult and potentially heartbreaking time.  What if the dad was a real nasty tempered dog, and/or had serious health problems - regardless of breed?

Just trying to adopt a Devil's Advocate stance - there are lots of negatives to spur of the moment puppy ownership at the best of times but as I'm dog daft and a soft touch too, I can understand why you feel as you do ;)

Yeah these are the things that need considering, we dont know the sire and he could be iffy.  We have been planning a new puppy since we got arthur going through the pedigree or dogs home crossbreed senarios. 

The thing that makes me want to give one of these dogs a chance even more is that I know this man will just give them to anyone that asks and thats scares me.  Im not the strictest of owners, I have never had a dog excellently obedience trained but my dogs have always known the basics and are well socialised.  Im worried these dogs are going to go to young teenagers who think its cool to have a staffy type pup but as soon as they get to a year they get rid of them cos there bored. 

I have asked my brother what dogs are allowed to roam free near him and he said he sees a male staffy around that is a big softy and a mongrel roaming....... ohhh I dont know thats why I need advice and sense talking to me.  I love staffys and have owned 2 in the past one from a pup and one from the dogs home and they were both great............   

Leanne - your feelings about that person who took the pup from the litter early are probably right.  Whatever you decide, please don't take a pup until it is at least 7 weeks old.
