Have a nine week old pup. Decided to crate her at night as i have always done with my other dogs. She is catching on to housetraining as hasnt messed in her cage but she is keeping us up. My other dogs have only ever had a couple restless nights at the beginning, then theyve settled down but she screams and screams and screams. She does not appear distressed in there as she will pop into cage of her own accord during day to sleep. When you go to let her out thinking she needs toilet, all she wants to do is play. Help us, were knackered!

Poor you :)  I think a good nights sleep is the greatest asset when coping with the hard work and stresses of rearing and training a pup in good humour.  I've never got up to a pup myself and I don't like dogs upstairs but they are all individuals and it sounds like this little one has a greater need to be around people than average (assuming you really did give it a go the first few nights and not respond to her demands which, of course, just teaches her it is worth being persistant :)).  I think, then, it might be worth trying the method advocated by quite a few posters on here of having the cage in your bedroom in the short term in the hope of moving her back to where ever you would prefer her to sleep when she is more settled.

If I get kept up by a pup I just think back to when my children where smal and thank god it is unlikely to last around a year as it is with a human baby :D

Whichewver method you use they will settle eventuyally if the crying doesn't get them what they want, or they no longer need the reasurance of you around.

Have you tried a Hot water bottle (well wrapped) and a ticking clock ??   I'd also use an old T-shirt worn till it pongs and used for her bedding :D  If she's warm and comfy (with your smell) and can hear a regular noise she may settle easier ;)   I used the T-shirt for my own babies when they wouldn't settle, it works a treat :) :)

I once had the same problem with a male puppy, after a few nights of driving me mad I put his crate between two of my older bitches, ive not heard a peep out of him since and hes 2 now.
Good luck :@)

I have just had a newfoundland girl come back to me at 2.5 years, she was always kept with an older St Bernard that they had, which unfortunatly died last week, she is very lost, missing her friend and her old family. She used to sleep out with the other dog, nww we have her in the Kitchen with the little dogs and the TM but she is still making a strangle low howl through the night, we do not go back to her just say at the top of the stair to hush, with her being older I am having problems as if I leave her she starts all the other dogs off howling. Any ideas what to do
