i am looking to buy a british bulldog puppy looking to pay around 1500 can any one help choudry2@ntlworld.com
hi guest
believe it or not, there are breeders out there who charge less than this for their Bulldog puppies, if you do a search on the breeders on this site and through the breed clubs and kennel club lists, you may be able to find a breeder who is not money orientated and who will sell you a puppy based on your suitability as an owner, price not being the main concern. I wish you luck in your search :-)
Dont want to seem snoddy here, really dont BUT if you are serious about getting a Bulldog you cannot have a set price, i have seen Bulldogs go up to £2500, as a true lover and owner of the breed i hope you understand that the morre you pay, the more likely you are getting a a pup from a good breeder, the best thing to do would be to ask the kennel club to email or fax through a list of breeders, they have registered, a list of proper breeders who wont take you for a ride!
>>the morre you pay, the more likely you are getting a a pup from a good breeder,
or it could just as easily be someone in it for the money. There are people that charge more if they think they can get away with it by saying its better quality etc when it might not necessarily be true. Just look at the prices of the latest "designer" cross breads.
I know a VERY good breeder who charges nowhere near the prices that have been quoted, what a load of rubbish "The more you pay, the more likely you are getting a pup from a good breeder"....
The fact is the more you pay the more you are lining the pockets of breeders who are just in it for the money.
that is so true mollmoo well said!

Mollmoo totally agree with you! Just because you pay more doesn't mean that you are paying for better quality!
The "more you pay" thing is so not true, the good genuine breeders are trying to get the price down for Bulldogs.
Do your research and find the breeder you are happy with, then discuss price. If it is above budget carry on searching, but a good breeder is your main concern and is well worth the wait.
Good luck with your search, they are a great breed and you will not be dissapointed :-)

Contact the breed club and find out what the average price range is for pups in this breed, avoid anyone charging a lot more or less. As with anything there is a going rate and if good breeders charge too little they may fnd profittering persons posing as genuine puppy buyers ahve resold their lovingly reared pup for profit, conversely some people prodcue pups purely for money. The breed clubs shoudl have a list of known reputable breed lovers that have or may be expecting litters.

I've noticed that whereabouts you live can have an affect on the price you pay as well.
Many breeds seem to be more expensive in the South than up North.
Up here in the North East I've seen Bulldogs for as little as £650 and also as much as £1700.
thats very true dawn, Ive noticed some areas like London the prices seem to be much higher, its daft because a dog is a dog no matter where you live

Bulldogs are lucky up here the idiots aren't breeding them at the moment. Too difficult no doubt and not enough pups in a litter.
I've wanted to own a bulldog since I was 5yrs old but I've never managed to find a suitable one when the money has been available to buy.
I have Mastiffs instead, all neutered.
Although I have a lot of experience in breeding and whelping I would never breed from a Bulldog if I ever got one as I'd rather leave that to the breed experts.
When I was at school, many years ago, my friends Mother bred Bulldogs. I saw my first Bulldog when they were still with their Dam. She also ran an animal shelter up here.
Not many around where I live apart from two that are owned by a gent who lives just across the way, his bitch is so aggressive that you cannot approach her, her lines are quite well known too. I have had many a discussion with him mainly because hes took a liking to my Corso's. He announced a few weeks ago that he is to breed from his bitch, even though shes aggressive :(
I have tried to advise him that its not a good idea and that its probably best he has her spayed, but he wants a return on the money he has paid for them :( Which I fear is where the problem lies when people pay so much money for a dog, and that goes for any breed.
Ok, maybe saying the more you pay was a bit of a silly thing BUT i do stand by the fact that, you should not have a set price, good breeders will not take kindly to people asking for prices becuase in there eyes, if you are serious about having a Bulldog, a Frenchie etc money should not come into it!
Its not just the initial price you pay, but the vet cost that come with them. My bitch cost £1800, good line, then another wod of monies in vet cost through campta labacta and e-coli that i purchased as well!!! not to mention the cherry eyes, please take this into account when buying one.
