My 13 week rough collie pup has slept in his crate from the first night we had him . he has always settled well with no problems, he would even happily go to his crate when i said "bed". He doesnt go in there much during the day prefering to sleep under the kitchen table. He has the run of downstairs when he is alone in the house and as long as he has his toys he is not desructive. The last week ive had increasing difficulty in getting him int his crate, ive had to pick him up and put him there (with much groaning from him) but last night he growled at me when i put him to 'bed' i dont like to think he is not happy and settled at night, i could hear him scratching to get out last night he did the for about 20 mins before he settled. he is so good during the day,do i let him sleep under the table at night with access to his crate
with the firework season coming up i would appreciate some advice

I'd be very reluctant to pick him up to put him in - it may be this he objects to. Do good things happen in the crate as well as just spending the night in there?
he has toys in there, but genrally it is his space and treats etc happen outside the crate
he actually hid in the garden last nigt when i found him and brought him inside i then spent 15 mins trying to coax him in to the crate he just was having none of it and as soon as he could he went to lie under the kitchen table

I'd be giving him ALL his meals in the crate, and maybe enticing him in with the offer of a treat at other times as well - but do NOT shut the door all the time. Make the crate routine unpredictable like with recall, if you always recall in the same place, the dog can learn to not come back at the last call of the walk ;)
Hi - if I were you, I'd be hiding treats in his crate, so the crate becomes a magical place where treats just appear from no where. Try to hide them when he's not looking, so he discovers this for himself.
Here is a link on crate training that may help you:

ive been hiding treats in there all morning and he has gone to lie in ther twice so the treat thing seems to work so we will see what he is like at bed time
he saw me put treats in at bedtime, and he went straight in had his treats then he crashed out and proceeded to snore like jet engine ah bless!
