  i have two rough collies mother&daughter
i have no problem grooming the mother-tasha as she loves it .
the problem is her daughter shes 6mth old she will lie and be groomed no bother but try grooming her between the back legs near he private parts she gose nuts try get away and even starts to shake i have groomed her fae she was weeks old but just doesn,t like hind end being touched at all can anyone please advise me on this.
  i forgot to mention they are rough collies and need alot of time spent on there coats

Am I right (or have I got it muddled - it happens more frequently these days!) and the dam is the bitch you had who was very nervous? What was the sire's temperament like?

I can only suggest you get someone to hold her front end and give her titbits while you groom the back end.

As long as you are gentle and don't hurt her, and she doesn't try to run off or bite, I think you might have to put up with the shaking. My Yankee gets a bit trembly when I'm pulling knots and spiky bits off his paws!!

Hello I now have beardies but have owned rough collies over the years I know what you mean about the knots alright!
have you tried chews I give mine a large dog chew the best ones that really get them engrossed are from tesco hartz chews theyre white in a wrapper they cost a bit more than in the pet shop but they love them and it works for me.
I put them on thier side and let them get started with thier chew then stroke them in the area that you are going to brush so that they get used to you touching them thier if theyre nervous the chew makes them forget what your doing then if you want to get it over with quickly cut into the knots and then gently tease them out otherwise you'll be at it tooo long and they become bored just do a bit then offer them a toy and take the treat away then try again a bit later giving them back the chew ....mine get excited when they see the chew bone come out cause eventhough they know thier getting groomed the chew mean more to them so they give in!!!!
obviously be careful when taking the chew away but as he is only a pup it just becomes routine.They'll hopefully let you carry on brushing them because the longer they get to eat thier treat!!

remember only to give that particiular chew for grooming!!!
EDIT: to add you could also put a slip lead on him so he cant run off,I would just sit on it.

  yes it is the bitch that was nervous. she is came on from there as she,s alot calmer now
yes pup that i have is not at all like her mother she more out going
and has a no care attitude she is so laid back that nothing bothers her

i groom them all the time it just the pup that hates her private parts being brushed
they are no nots in her it just shes not cleaning her self right and that gives her some
fur that sticks together other than that shes fine

If the fur is sticking together and not knots maybe it would be easier to wash her in that area rather than forcing the brushing I have to wash my girl quite often in the privates!!
With them having long coats when they sit to pee thier coat sits in the pee ....I get a bowl with thier shampoo mixed in and put thier back legs in and quickly give them a wash then rinse with clean water add a bit of conditioner  rinse and towel then a quick brush (the conditioner makes it easier to brush.
and they smell sweeter too!!

Has she only started this behaviour?  Could be that she's soon to come into season as they can get very touchy about being touched down below a few weeks before they come in.

I got a male dog who doesn't like ebing brushed around his bits but I have recently found that there is one comb he doesn't mind being combed round his bits by!!!  (this is my comb that I worship because it's great!!! :D lolb
