I've just homed an ESS rescue dog..who has got lice, well they look like lice to me on his ears, nothing moving just eggs(looks just like headlice eggs urghh itch itch scratch lol), anyone got any ideas on treating him, I have got Frontline spot on and spray here, and it says it treats biting lice, or is a trip to the vets in order, I have other dogs that have been mixing with him, will they get it too??...sorry hope you aren't all itching now, I know I am LOL
Thanks

Don't know is my answer I'm afraid.  I would think though that all parasites are contageous.  What colour are the nits?  Human nit cases are visable more once they've hatched so see if you can see any brownish ones which would indicate live nits.  Can't you ask the place you got him from if he has been treated?  If they don't know they should.

I'll be interested to see what the experienced owners say

I think you need to treat them all now to be on the safe side.

Hi,

The Frontline spray is the correct product to get rid of lice.  If your other dogs have been treated recently they should be fine, otherwise they will need a spray too.  Dog lice do not survive in the environment very well, so a good vacuum should be all that's necessary in your home.  Wash the dog beds at 60 degrees C and wash grooming brushes and combs.

Just to add that it's most likely Trichodectes canis which can be seen here:

You'll have to cut and paste the url as it won't work as a link.  Scroll down the page to the paragraph about dogs.
