Get him into the show ring so the dog world can see how good he is, if that in not your style let your dogs breeder and other experienced breeder take a look at him, if he is as good as you think you will be asked to use him at stud by the owners of bitches who have a compatable background, all you have to do then is have the health tests done and if the results are good and you are able to accept the responsobility of the forthcomming litter along with the bitch owner then off you go and I wish you all the best. Is your boy KC registered? Eye tested? What lines does he come from? Do you know enough about those lines to know if he is a suitable match for a particular bitch, and what traits they throw? Are you prepared to be responsible for any puppies that he may sire - as the sire should also be willing to help if problems arise with homing the pups, or having to re-home them? Do you show him? Could you show him? Is he an excellent example of the breed - both in temprament and conformation? Do you know what faults he has?
If the answer to any of these questions is no, then i wouldn't stud him... Not to mention that you will find it very hard to find any bitches for him.
However, if the answer is yes to ALL these questions, get him out to lots of shows, open and champion, get your stud book number and then people may start to enquire about studing to him.
Also, you dont say how old he is, or why you want to have him as a stud? If he is a pet, keep him as such - you will both be happier in the long run...

Hi Cleopatra
Can't think of anything you missed, well said.
I hope the guest comes back to read and take heed of your advice.

Unfortunately there are too many irresponsible people out there breeding staffs at the moment due to their popularity. There are also many people who want these type of breeds for the wrong reasons and so although you may find people offering to use your boy at stud look at the dog and owner and ask if they are breeding for the good of this wonderful breed or for money or whatever other reason they can come up with.
I have a pet staff who although of the best temperaments is not to breed standard -19 inches tall and weights 28kg!- and have had numerous offers of bitches to stud him to but he has never and never will be used .
If you love you're dog you will do this correctly if at all because do you really want his babies in the hands of irresponsible people who will use them for who knows what.
A breeder can never be sure what will happen to her pups in the future but a good one does all they can to ensure they are placed in the best homes and that they will be treated right!
