Topic Other Boards / Foo / Copying files onto a CD??
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 06.10.05 09:25 UTC
Am getting a tad frustrated at the minute, we have just got a bew computer so I'm trying to get all the piccies and files I had on the old one onto this one....nightmare!

I've done this before and I remember it being quite easy but the computer just doesn't want to do it! If I open the CD drive it has all the files I have copied but it I click on 'copy files to CD' a message comes up saying that Windows is currently using the CD....what does it mean?!

Hope someone can put me straight, please :D

do you only have the one cd drive?
and which windows are you operating on?

It means that Windows thinks it is using the CD, of course what Windows thinks it's doing and what it is actually doing may well be two completely different things :D.  It does sound like Windows has got confused - you could try shutting it all down and starting again, you may have to put a new CD in though.

That to me reads as if you have all the files on a disc in the cd disc drive and then want to copy them onto another disc but cant as the original disc is in the disc drive....
If that is the case the files need to be on the hard drive usually called local disc or (C) and then you can copy. or put disc in another disc drive if you have one.

If they are already on the hard drive then as shadbolts said... its probably got confused and needs another cup of coffee :D
Although sometimes i have found that i can only copy some files from certain programmes ie a music file for instance has to be done through media player. too me awhile to work that one out, windows Xp dont you just love it :D

So much that we have ditched the PC in favour of an AppleMac, only had it a week and don't ever think we will go back :D

Thanks for the tips, I'll see what I can do, the old lap top is rather senile so I'll shut her down and keep my fingers crossed that does the trick!

Looks like I'm gonna be here a while though, I have sooo many pictures it unbeliveable :D :D

Ive just switched from a pc to an apple mac. Which version have you got? Ive got an imac G5 with 10.4 tiger program thingy. Its taking me a while to get used to it!!

Snap! Ours is an iMac G5 too, very very different from our other computers and it does take a while to get the hang of it, me and my dad agreed that if either of us found out how to do something new we would tell the other so we can learn quicker but we have that AppleCare or whatever its call, anything you don't understand you just phone up and they'll explain to you.

The other day I was so chuffed when I discovered how to copy and paste, and now I do it without even thinking, its like retraining your brain all over :D

And the best thing is that it'll never crash or get a virus, our lap top was plagued by them so happy days now!

The mouse and keyboard are strange too but I'm learning to love them too :D :D
