Currently own an Irish Wolfhound and love Great Danes too. (love big dogs) Would love to own a great dane in the future and wondered if anyone knew of any good sites with breed guides etc for me to look into the breed. Ps does anyone know of good sites that give advice on persuading your husband that your choice of dog is best :-)

theres also the breed clubs listed at the bottom of that page which if you contacted them they may be able to suggest an owner/breeder locally that you could visit and get lots of first hand info and advice. worth a try. :)

As for advice with OH i have found that persisitance works well for me :D ( grind em down LOL )

Thanx for advice. OH will probably come round to my thinking in time if he knows whats good for him.

I've found that arriving home with the puppy and handing it to the OH works very well. :D

That's a tactic that I may have to resort to, unfortunately its the OH car that would have to transport puppy-to-be home as mine isn't exactly reliable if travelling any great distance. Maybe I could just pinch his car while he's at work. The shock of me driving his car would probably be far greater that me arriving home with a pup.

It took me about 3 years to get my own way but got there in the end :) Hes always wanted a springer and me a great dane now we are proud owners of ruby a 5 month harly/merle :)

I dont think so after meeting his aunties springer im no way having one they are crackers :)

Can't believe it my OH wants a springer as well (he's into shooting). I have explained the benefits of a Dane over a springer eg. It'll be able to pick up all the birds he's shot as dane has a bigger mouth, although that didn't go down too well. I guess it's something I'll have to keep working at. Anyone know any Danes that were used for shooting?? (I know this is a complete longshot) I could maybe persuade him with this argument :D

Wolfie we have is just the same, OH mates all have springers and OH mates had pups about 10 weeks ago. Did manage to persuade OH not to get one so maybe my tatics are working. Will wait till after Xmas now before I go into full blown 'I want that dog mode'.

You go girl :) I just used to leave pics on the computer and every time corrie was on and saw chesneys dog i would be like "AAWWW I WANT ONE"
It was went he met one near his mums house that he decided they were lovely and when he said that word " yes" i didnt drop it untill the money was in breeders hands :) I must admit i like to get my own way and i do pretty much all of the time :)

They get big, they drool, they wreck the house to bits intentionally or unintentionally they knock you over on walks, if the danes are on the sofa you aren't :rolleyes: if the danes are not allowed on the sofa you risk breaking your neck everytime you want to go make a cuppa as they lift their big heads up at crucial points!

Still all the drool, digging up the flowers and just been soooo god dam clumsy makes them even more lovely :)

Thanks, My friend has her mother staying as she also owns a dane and has her leg in pins due to the dane going into her a few weeks ago.

The best thing to do is DON'T MOVE when a running dane is approaching, many people instinctively move to one side BIG MISTAKE! :rolleyes: whichever side you choose thats the one they hit roflmao

I thought I had a Newfie but it looks like I actually have a long-haired Dane :D

Apart from the hair they are noooo different! (oh and mine don't like water!) :D

Mine is pretty much scared of everything that moves! cant wait to take her to beach to see how she reacts to all that water :)

Well nows the time to get it out socialised, don't slack as a big dog with issues is not a pretty thing.

We were at a champ show a couple of weeks ago and the Danes were in the next ring to the Newfies. My OH was very taken with a little (or should I say big?!) blue pup who kept coming over to him for kisses....I think he might be the one trying to convince me in a few years time that our next big dog should be a Dane :rolleyes: although I don't think I'd be hard to convince, the real arguement would be blue versus harlequin :P

Aww she is really very good she loves everybody and is brill with other dogs! have met a few dogs that are wary of her size she just wants to play with everyone!
