Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Dogs and Human Excrement??

Hi, I'm really sorry to ask this - and I promise this is no joke question.  Whilst completing my lovely walk with my lovely cavalier on Saturday, I smelt something awful.  My 2 yr old bitch was covered in faeces.  The trouble is she has rolled in cowpats before, and in rabbit faeces before .... but this was stomach turning.  She was near where some fishermen were.  I was almost sick with the smell and with the thought.  On returning home and hosing her down and shampooing her 3 times - I could still vaguely smell it - but I think the smell was by that stage up my nose!!!  My husband said he didn't think dogs were interested in human faeces - I just wondered - please answer it could not have been human faeces.  I'm really sorry about this awful post - but I promise this is no wind-up.

I'm afraid that as one of my dogs emerged from undergrowth near where travellers had been camped, proudly carrying a large turd with pink loo paper attached  I can say for sure that dogs aren't picky when it comes to faeces. Sorry.

Mine did this as well. Tomato sauce is good but the lingering mell is best dealth by using the tomato sauce as usual then spray with something nice like Calvin Klein perfume, (as borrowed from my daughter, lol and I had no idea it was so expensive).

Oh! The joys of owning a dog  The best way of shifting any lingering smell is to rub tomato sauce or puree over the dog (yes, really :)) and then rinse that off.  Of course the smell might not really be there and it's just the thought of it haunting you now............:( ;)

YUK!! Remind me again, why do I want a dog???? LOL ;)

Why shouldn't dogs be interested in human faeces - they're interested in everything else that smells disgusting :D
This is the first post I've read that nearly makes Fox Poo seem pleasant.

It must rank very near the top of my 'disgusting sights' league table.

I've just remembered seeing a documentary about Bantu (or similar) tribesmen, where dogs are called over to clean a baby when it's pooed ...

lol lol, I thought eating poo was the worst they can do but I suppose reading this it's not.  At least by the time we get home there's no evidence of what she's done and no smell to get rid of.  I wonder though who is more digusting the dog, who 's thinking 'hmm Chanel No 5' :D or the travellers? :(

Mine are guilty of chewing the bottom out of the kids pants when the kids were younger and not always 100% about 'wiping' when they'd finished :( (Only on Champdogs could I admit to something like that :o)

JG - you are the queen of cringeworthy posts on this particular thread :D LOL

You mean that's not Willis' latest job? ;) :D

Yuck, I agree, its the worst thing they can roll in.  Or eat.  Horse buns are downright pleasant in comparison.

My friend had a dog who was positively delighted when I took my babies to visit.  When nappy changing he was only too eager to 'Clean up' the contents of the nappy given half a chance!!  I had to ensure that the disposables were well and truly hidden or he'd woof the lot down!

It was the most stomach churning experience.

I am beginning to wonder if I really want a dog after reading these posts. YUCK.

My friends dog rolled in fox poo the other day and she tried the tomato ketchup remedy and ended up with a dog that smelt of fox poo and tomato ketchup.  YUMMY

As the OP doesn't mention fox poo as something she recognises her dog rolling in, it might have just been that. That's certainly got a stomach turning smell - when my dogs roll in it I have to drive home with all the windows open and turn the hosepipe on them in the garden!!

Abby and her friend both rolled in human poo last year they both stank yuk horrible animals.

It was Jet, the labrador of very little brain but much brawn, and his sidekick Tramp, the Border Terrorist, who used to slam open the door of the loo where the nappy bucket was kept, with its contents of dirty (though rinsed clean of poo!) and wet nappies soaking in Napisan, the in the days before disposables.   They would then proceed to pull the contents out, inspect them and if there was one with a nice dirty spot on it, the little b*****s would eat it! YEUGH YEUGH YEUGH!!!

So I would come home from collecting kids from school, to find nappy bucket on its side in the loo, yucky napisan and nappies everywhere - and of course someone would be BURSTING to use the loo after the long walk home!!

Such sweet wee doggies
