Topic Other Boards / Foo / New Sofas!!
- By Charanda [de] Date 03.10.05 07:29 UTC
Yes, we've been out and ordered our new sofas over the weekend and are hoping for delivery before Christmas!!  :D

We've gone for leather sofas as having read many a thread on here it appears that people recommend the leather when owning dogs.

My old sofas were lovely until Glazby came along and he's slowly made them look grubbier and more worn.  Nice new leather ones will just wipe clean!!  :D

Can't wait - it'll be like a Christmas pressie to ourselves!!  :D

I hope it wasn't Land of Leather, my sister was quoted 6 - 10 weeks.....which was up 2 weeks ago, after lots of calls, they've now told her ANOTHER 6 weeks (possibly) and this was ordered beginning of July,  she's beginning to wonder if she'll get it in time for Christmas too.

No - it was good old DFS for us!!  ;-)  I'll keep my fingers crossed for your sister and hope that they arrive soon.

We got our leather sofas from DFS and they delivered on time (on the one occasion when we didn't want them on time but that's another story!!). 2&1/2 years and 2 big dogs later, they are still in great condition :)

Yes, we got ours from DFS too, quoted 8 weeks and it arrived in 6, luckily we were ready for it.

We're having my birthday party on 12 November and in the unlikely event of them arriving before that we're going to keep them wrapped up in the garage until after the party so as not to get them ruined - we'll use the old ones and people can spill as many drinks on them as they like!!  ;-)

I had no idea how easy it is to get sofas anymore - we've gone for the pay nothing for 12 months and then pay them off over 2 years.  They just filled in the paperwork and shook our hands and that was it!!  No credit checks or anything - they must be desperate to sell stuff - we had about 6 sales assistants stalking us as we walked around!!

Hi, you must be really excited - I know we were when waiting for our sofas!  We were told delivery in 9 weeks (SCS) and true to their word they arrived exactly on time.  They're fab and it is great having leather - even dog hairs are just easily swept onto the floor - terrific :D

My sister also has hers on a buy now pay later, as compensation, they are changing the credit agreement to start the pay later 12 months after the suite arrives, rather than the day they signed, plus they are going to refund the cost of delivery............WHEN it arrives.

My OH keeps trying to convince me to get leather sofas but I keep putting it off as my girl loves lying on our old sofa.  My work colleague tells me that if we get them to not let the dog up as she will scratch them.  What does everyone think?  Would hard leather or soft leather be more practical?
- By ShaynLola Date 03.10.05 11:41 UTC
I have two big dogs and my leather sofas haven't suffered any damage at all. In fact, as they are easy to wipe clean I don't even mind them getting up on the sofas when wet & dirty...a quick wipe with a baby wipe has them looking good as new :)

Toby has actually managed to scratch one of our sofas, within a couple of days of us getting it actually, but it is insured completely (which I highly recommend) and also now it's a few weeks later you can't even tell it's scratched.

Yep, we've taken the protection out on the sofas.  Its a 5 year protection from all accidental stains, rips, tears etc etc and will be worth its weight in gold!!  :D

Oh no, SharonM!!!

We ordered a pair of sofas two weeks ago from Land of Leather and they said 4-6 weeks.  I'll not hold my breath then   They were such a bargain as well, both sofas had reclining seats on them and they're dead comfy!!  At least we resisted the bloke's blandishments to pay them up at extortionate interest or pay for an exorbitant extended guarantee :D  And we only paid a small deposit too, cos I'd have been seething if I had paid the whole price and then had to wait as long as your sister has   Might have known the price plus 4 - 6 weeks was too good to be true :(

I took that out Charanda when I bought a leather suite approx 4 years ago and when I was with a friend buying a suite for herself at the same shop the woman told me the 5 year cover is not as comprehensive as it was and now doesn't cover animal damage.  Typical that i pick a great sofa that has shown no signs of wear in 4 years despite being a dog trampoline and don't get any benefit from a hugely expensive insurance policy.

lol cheekychow - you sound like me, if you're going to pay for something then you want to get your full money's worth!!  I haven't checked the paperwork properly yet but I have a feeling that if the sofa was damaged by Glazby that I'd be able to concoct a story of how it was me and not the dog!!  ;-)

Still - hoping that we won't need to use it.  The only thing that Glazby has done to wreck the other sofas is that he dribbles and I'll come home at lunchtimes to find a nice big wet patch on the fabric sofa seat.  Over 2 years its began to stain them a bit.  Hoping that with leather I'll just be able to wipe dry and clean  :D

Hi DFS are usually pretty good at getting their orders out. i got my leather suite from them many years ago and they told me it could be up too 10wks. My suite came into the country from italy arrived at hull (if memoryright) and was delivered the day after.in total i waited eight weeks i was very impressed with them.

We got ours from DFS just over 18 moths ago. they arrived a week early and they stilll don't have a mark on them despite one huge GSD sleeping on the sofa at night and one little git with long claws jumping all over them.
Having got through 5 fabric suites in 6 years I'm well pleased with the leather
