how long do most of you find your bitches bleed after having a litter? (small breed)

Thanks

I suppose it depends on the size of the litter. My bitch had 6 and stopped bleeding after about 10 days. As long as all seems healthy and the loss isn't foul smelling or a dubious colour I wouldn't worry. I've heard of some bleeding as long as 6 weeks after.

My dal had a discharge for about 5 or 6 weeks.

My vet told me not to worry if there was some sort of discharge right up to the next season, although mine had cleared up after 10-14 days.

My bitch had some discharge until well after the last pup had gone to her new home, probably about 10-11 weeks. Even the vet thought this was a bit strange, but she was fit and healthy, and even following a scan and various antibiotics everything showed as being normal. She is a large breed.

thank you everyone.  My vet said it was normal she is still nursing.  it's been 7 weeks.
I feel better now.

My bitch is still nursing too and they go to their new homes this weekend.

Hmm, something else not to tell my OH about - I'm trying to persuade him to let me mate my little bitch!! Don't worry, we will do all the health tests, and she is a reasonable specimen - gets placed at open shows and pulled out at champ shows, and has an excellent temperament!

Hi Lucy, I love to look at other peoples websites and see their dogs - isn't your bitch still a puppy? You'll have a while to work on the OH then ;)   Jane

Hi Jane & Meg,

You must be the Jane that left the message on the guest book, glad you liked it!! Ellie's only 10 months and hasn't had her first season, but it's best to let the OH get used to the idea well before anything actually happening. Otherwise I'd be 'oh, Ellie's going off to get mated tomorrow, is that ok?' !!! :-D

ps don't you have Cavs Meg? Yankees are hardly any more trouble, at least not with the pathetic amount of coat George has, and you can always trim it back if you had one that did grow a proper coat! I admit to him being quite active and fidgety though, although again no worse than the puppy!!

Hi Lucy, yes, that was me - great pics on your site - not just of gorgeous dogs and awesome scenery but fabulous wimbledon ones too. Re the other half you could always wait and then say "oh by the way Ellie was mated yesterday" !! :) :) Jane
