can someone please give me some info regarding this vaccination, i have heard conflicting stories regarding different times of when to give a bitch the vacc & am unsure of which is the right times after mating, some say 3 weeks after, some say right after mating & again about 3 wk before whelping
any info will be greatly recieved, heard a lot about this vac & want to get it right before i mate our bitch

Hi,
The Vet and breeders that we speak to on this subject are 100% in agreement of the 1st vaccine at 0-10 days post mating and the 2nd 5 weeks post mating. Hope this helps :-)

Just out of interest, would you recommend this vaccine for a Maiden bitch?

I wouldnt consider breeding without using CH injection but that is just MO.

There is alot of conflicting advice Kayc wrote an article and posted it on the forum, I can't remember where it is now but it was very informative. My bitch had the CHV this time, she had been previously mated and missed. She had the 1st vaccination on the day of the first mating and the 2nd one 2 weeks before she was due to whelp. Result 6 lovely healthy puppies :-) for all it costs I wouldn't do a mating without it either ;-) and yes I would recommend it for a maiden bitch as she could still have been in contact with CH and so could the stud dog.

I was about to say wait for Kayc to reply, she uses it each time with her girls, so she will know.  Take a look here:  http://www.champdogsforum.co.uk/cgi-bin/board/topic_show.pl?pid=524500;hlm=and;hl=canine%20herpes%20vaccination#524500

many thanks to everyone for their reply's, has taken me 3 years to get to mate this bitch so want to give her the best protection we can, i have heard a lot about the vaccine & just have to do it,  infact we had actualy given up on the fact she would have a litter. up until now her seasons have been terrible & erratic & not been able to get a proper mating until now so all going to plan & we do get puppies i know im talking far too early but this would be a very precious litter indeed, as is everyone puppies,
going to vet tomorrow for vacc.
the thing about this mating that really touched me was the fact 4 wk ago we lost our beloved pointer & feel that this mating was a gift from him, i miss him terribly
also a message to kay, the previous article about chv you wrote is excellent, so much information there, thanks
             regards
