Hi,
I have a two year old Newfoundland and have decided to invest in a blaster. Could anyone give me advice as to which make and power would be best for a newfie coat? Do i get a dryer/blaster or just a blaster? I was looking to spend around £300 - £350.
Also, can the blaster be used daily as a means of blasting the loose hair out? I sure newfie owners and other long haired breed owners understand (it looks like i have a small tribe of guinea pigs on my floor at the end of each day!!!).
Thanks for any help posted.
Simpsons do a great value combi which would be ideal for your purpose. Beware about blasting though without thoroughly brushing out or you will end up with a very notty newfie.

thanks,
we've decided to up our budget to around 400 - 450 as when i've been talking to retails on the phone they reckon we won't get a powerful enough one for less than that. the say it needs to have twin motors.
any comments??

They must have upgraded??? Mine has twin motors!!
I used both in a grooming parlour for over 16 years. I replaced the dryer after about 12 years (still working - I gave it to another exhibitor!) The blaster is still going strong.
I use the blaster to remove water, after a bath etc. Single motor for Yorkies etc, holding them firmly to make sure that they don't get blown out of the window! And both motors for my Rough Collies and larger double coated dogs. Yes it does remove some dead coat - up the walls, across the ceiling :)!!
But for grooming I use the dryer on cold. It parts the hair, like having another hand, and makes grooming back to the skin and removing dead hair much easier. And of course, with heat, it dries the coat very quickly.

Do you think with our newfie we should have a dryer and a blaster or would a blaster do the trick. ohh it's a confusing world out there to me LOL !!

Bless, it is confusing, I agree!!
Newfies tend to be wet dogs, as in liking water, don't they? So if you are wanting to dry him, then I'd suggest a blaster. But, as I think someone else has already suggested, if you blast without grooming, then you'll have a matted dog!!
I would towel dry and then use a dryer, grooming as you go. Do you groom on a bench? If not then you'll need a dryer with a hose because you won't get the stand down far enough to groom on the floor - oh my back hurts just thinking about it!! :(
I haven't used the duel units. I always feel that it's like buying a washer/dryer, fridge freezer etc - if one part fails then .............
Do you use a slicker brush and a comb to remove the dead coat? But I must say, even as a groomer, when I think that I've done a good job, I always do better with the dryer blowing!! ;)
I have a blaster that has a drying element as well and given the amount of use it gets, its holding up well! You can turn off the heating element if you didn't want it. It can be found on the 'Christies' web site for about £260.00 and have used its to dry a variety of breeds including St Bernards. But, as everyone has said, make sure you groom out well and with some coats, don't over dry as it will be mat heaven!!

I have 2 newfs and have a circuiteer 2 blaster. I dont know how I managed without it. I have had it 3 yrs and that was the recommended one at the time but now the metro something or other seems to be the popular one.

Now there's a recommendation for you!! :)

Hi ,
we have a Tornado 93, its a dryer and blaster combined.I find it ace !! Comes on a stand with a detachable hose for close- up drying and when i need 2 hands you can position it just right ! Its a bit of a luxury for a 'pet' newf , but we have just bought a hydro- bath as well and that is brilliant. We have all our newfie friends queueing up to use it . miranda x
