my GSD is 5 months old and is a big boy.
he has huge paws and his legs are really chunky.
i have a few friends with adult KC registerd GSD's and he is almost as big as them now. there is an inch at most between him and the biggest bitch in height, but he is already as long as them all.
every dog owner we mwwt, says he is going to be very big boy.even the vet felt he was big, but was not concerned.
i am feeding him adult tinned food, with a complete dry puppy food. he also gets eggs, raw meaty bones as well as his recriational bones. you can feel his ribs easily but there is a fine covering of muscle.
he looks very well and is alert and happy.
but i was wondering if his growth will slow down now?
if he keeps growing at this rate and dosnt stop till he is 18 months he is going to look like a lion.

How much does he weigh?

Some dogs do all their upwards growing first My Beardies always looked tall until they hit 9 months & then they hit adult height & never grew any taller & then filled out.
Some dogs don't stop growing until they are 18 months
When his"knuckles"have gone he will have stopped growing upwards
LOL one of my German bred GSD(from two imports)kept growing until hec was 18 months old & he ended up 32"+ at the shoulder(LOL the measuring stick only went up to 32"!)he was totally in proprtion tho' & it wasn't until he stood along a GSD of the right size you realised how big he was !
im not sure hwo much he weighs at the moment. i only knwo the weight at his last checkup. the problem is there is no where really to weigh him with out takin ghim to the vets which is a long way away and as i dont drive and i always habe my little girl in tow i tend to only go there when i make appointments for hom to be seen.
his growth knuckles are still very big!

Have you any batroom scales as you can stand on there without him and then with him and the difference will be his weight.
If not what was he at his last check and at what age?
Bev
his last check was ar 3 months old and his weight was 17.6kgs.
ill try the scales thing with him now.
ok i just tried him on the scales. that was a joke, lol after holding him i coudl not see the scales as he was in the way. but i finally managed to do it.
with him it was an extra 3 and a bit stone. not sure what that is in kgs. but for a 5 month old pup i coudl hardly pick him up. he dosnt liek being picked up and struggles. :-)
here are some pics
first one shows him next to me. im 5ft.3

ok i have just mesured him and he is just over 17 inches.
Oh really disappointed tried to get the piccis up, but it said image not available. I would love to compare him to my GSD who is just over 4 months, any idea how i can get the photos.

The top size for a male GSD should be 26"& a bitch 24" This is measured at the withers

That is a big lad. My Rottie x GSD is now 3 1/2 months old and she weighs 15.55 kg and I thought she was big enough, She is definatly not over weight either just solid.
Bev
thats like benji. he is just solid, but you can easily feel his ribs and his back bone, although they are coverd with a thin layer of muscle.
i thought he would grow in to his big paws but his paws are just getting bigger and bigger. he is like a bear.
just as well he is good to lead in a plain leather coller and lead, other wise i would of had my work cut out for me i think. ;-)
my gsd cross baby is just a little over 3 stone and she is only 17 weeks, everyone also says she will be a big girl. she is def not over weight, if anything when she stands she looks like she could put some on! she was 9.4 kg when she was 11 weeks and the nurse at the vets said she was growing like fury. I dont see her as being that big tho, just looks like my cats have shrunk and got lighter lol
what is she crossed with?
she has an eighth rottie in her, well her mum had a quarter rottie so i guess that works out kind of right
