Hi - Nope, it's not ok. It won't do him any harm to clear up some leftovers (as long as he doesn't get porky!), but he needs the puppy food until he's 6 months at least. ND advise feeding their Puppy food until 6 months. This is considerably earlier than some other manufacturers - I questioned them about this and they said it was because their adult foods contain more protein than a lot of other dog foods. But he still needs the puppy food till 6 months at least.
By the way, dogs won't starve themselves - or very, very very rarely, anyway (I do know of 1 which almost did, but he had psychological probs!). If he turns his nose up at it, take it away and offer it to him again a couple of hours later. If he still doesn't want it, do the same. Keep doing that till he eats it.
If he refuses his food, and you take it away and give him something tastier, what is he learning? Yup, that by refusing his food, he'll get something even better.
I don't understand - if they're fed separately, how does he have access to the other dog's bowl? Also, why are there any leftovers in the older dog's bowl?? I've never heard of a dog fed ND that didn't lick the bowl clean!!! Perhaps you should feed the older dog less...
(adult foods contain more protein than a lot of other dog foods)? Puppys, smaller dog in partuicular need a higher level of protien than olderdogs and no harm in eating older dogs food he would just have to eat more to gain the energy he needs. However if he is already starting to nick his elders food looks like he wants to be the boss -jo
