Have you tried a pot of treats by the front door as people enter get them to take a few and if your pup jumps turn their backs and ignore until he sits or stays with all four paws ion the ground then get them to treat him if he stays down try it its worth a try i got people to go up to mine with a treat out in the street and be really excitable and when she jumped they turned round and walked away then came back to try again until she stayed on the floor then they would treat her she hardly jumps at all now

I teach all my dogs to 'come up' on command. They don't tend to jump up and catch people unawares ;) Mind you, we do have to watch out for Chloe head-butting in a certain region  Brings tears to the eyes :D

Lindylou's tip has worked for me too.  My dog's have been taught that the word HUGS means they can put their feet up on me.  Otherwise its FEET ON THE FLOOR for them.  I think 6 months is a bit young to grasp this concept yet so I would keep her on a leash when people are coming to the door.

Another way is to scatter goodies on the floor when someone arrives, if the dog has its head down searching for titbits it cannot have 2 feet off the floor too......... ;)
