Hi people!
Just wondering if anyone has had one of these? I know it's quite a personal/private thing but i have got to have one on wednesday and i am rather frightened to say the least. Its done with a local anesthetic(sp?) and they fiddle around inside the boob with a large-ish needle. Being a number one wimp who took her mother with her when she had a tooth out - i was 29!, i'd like to know a bit more of what to expect.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
S

Hi - I had this done, some 8 years ago, I think. It WAS uncomfortable, but I had a lovely lady holding my hand, and telling me to squeeze it as hard as I needed to. The specialist uses the screen and your mammogram to ensure that s/he goes to the exact spot, so as not to have too much wiggling about. I had some bruising afterwards - but not as much as I thought I would (I bruise very easily).
Mine was fine, I'm glad to say - so I'll be thinking positive thoughts for you next week, Sara.

Hi Sara,
I had one done a few years ago, it is nothing to be worried about, I didn't feel any pain, you could feel that something was there, but no pain, it did ache a bit as it came back to life but it isn't an unbearable pain, it is just like a bruise!
I hope this helps to put your mind at rest, and the results are all good :D

Thanks both of you, that is re-assuring. The interenet has a lot to answer for really as its one there i've read some terrifying things! I expect the bruising and asked the nurse about it as i am going for a 'wicked evening' with OH on the friday, she said just to turn the lights off so he couldn't see!!
Thanks again

If I remember rightly, I don't think the bruising was much worse than what you get from having a blood test, the worst thing for me was where it was, I kept brushing my arm against it, but like I said other than that, it was fine.
You are right about the internet, it is a great resource, but you have to be able to work out the truth from the lies.
Good luck :D

I've not had that done but had a Carpal Tunnel decompression done under LA & the worse thing was the pressure cuff on the upper arm uses to make the op bloodless ! It was really weird feeling the surgeon moving my hand but it being totally numb from the wrist downwards
The nurses were wonderful & even the surgeon joined in the banter as he was closing the op site.
Just wanted to say thanks again to you lot. Had it done yesterday and yes it was uncomfortable, yes i was a wimp and cried, but it was not as bad as i imagined.
The worst bit now is waiting till next week for the results as the find needle result is inconclusive.
Charming.
Thanks again
Sara
I was thinking of you yesterday Sara, good luck for the results :)
