Hi all

Our poor Shar Pei has had surgery on his ears and is all healing fine but a side effect of either being a bit run-down or the drugs he has been on have given him a very dry coat.  He has always had a lovely coat and at the moment his skin is very dry and his coat looking thin.  He looks a sight bless him with 2 stitched up ears and a mohican!

Wondered if there was anything I could put on his skin to stop it being so dry - I can't really bath him as I wouldn't want to get anything on the stitches?

Thanks guys.

Nicky

Your best way to improve his skin/coat is from the inside, have a look at his diet. I don't have a problem with any of my dogs skin apart from one who was a spring/summer allergy problem that Quistel spray cures. Possibly adding Omega 3 oils to his diet ?

Vitamin E can also be very good for dry skin.

You could mix some sunflower oil (freshly opened) with lavender oil - 5 drops Lavender oil to 10 ml of sunflower (get a little mixing bottle from the chemist, a dropper bottle is ideal ;) )  and just massage a few drops into the affected skin, as long as you don't pour it on the wound ;)  The Lavender mixture will migrate to the wound and assist in good healing :) as well as moisturising the skin :D

You could add some sunflower oil to the food (a teaspoon or so) to help internally :)  Its very high in Vitamin E :D
