Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / 2 year old BC soiling at night time
- By ROSIEDOLLYJAZ [gb] Date 29.09.05 20:17 UTC
Hello
Hope you can help. My 2 year old BC keeps soiling in the house. She has never been perfect at night but just lately it's got worse. I'm trying to think what I've done wrong because both her and her sister were trained as puppies. They know when they've had their food it's time to go to the toilet and they do without even being asked, the same throughout the day if I open the door they go out and go. I have a dap diffuser to make sure it's not a seperation issue. I have used non-biological powder to try to get rid of the scent but nothing is working.

Do I need to go back to training as a puppy?? what worries me is I dont think it's her sister thats doing it and if I put paper down will she get the wrong message and start to go on the paper and not outside??

I've seen a vet so it's nothing medical

Hope you can help

Thanks

Jo

What are you feeding and when? :)

Add sweetcorn to one dog's meal and you can then tell which dog is messing :)

Hi
Good idea! didnt think of that. They are both on Hills RD prescription diet at the moment because they are both 21kg and need to lose a bit of weight, especially Rosie because she has Hip Dysplacia. I know the food contains a lot of fibre so I dont know whether that has an impact, suppose it could. Also she drinks quite a bit of water so maybe I'll have to pick it up at night?

Thanks

Please do NOT remove water at night, especially if feeding a dry food or a food high in fibre.

Has anything happened at night to unsettle her recently?  Can you set up a video camera to film them at night?

Another reason is that it could be the actual diet, if you have not had a problem before, it could be this (if it's not anything unsettling her etc).

If this seems to be the case, try feeding her at different times or speak to your vet.

My dobermann (19 months) also soils at night occasionally.  He often does it if we have been out, he then does it when we come home and go to bed, he will do it in the night.  Over the last few days he has been going at night.  I feed him around 10-11 am and then at 6.30pm, I wonder whether I should change his feeding times.  Generally he is let out around midnight, then I let him out at 5am, but he will soil between these times.  Sometimes on his last time out before bed, he just wants to bark at the foxes and at that time of night not a good idea.

It may be the foxes that are unsettling him........
