I currently own a male 6-month old chocolate lab. I bought him when he was 3 months old. I plan on getting a litter of pups from him before he is neutered. My question is this: I am basically his sole owner I feed, water, exercise, play w/ him and he is soo attached to me.I got him from a breeder, and i was wondering if maybe he was abused by a male sometime when he was younger. He cowers and puts his tail between his legs when a male approaches him. He stays by my side wherever we go, so sometimes i don't even bother putting him on a leash. I often times "socialize" him around my friends who are male and female so he gets used to more people. People often think he is aggressive, and i don't want him to ever get that way. Is this just in a choc.labs genes to act this way towards a female owner. Please let me know, by answereing my post. thank you diann

Well how to reply without upsetting you and that is definitley not my intention BUT !! if he has this temperament you MUST not breed from him at all,and please ask yourself why do you want to breed a litter of pups ?
There are enough labradors bred in this country without breeding just on a whim, you would need his hips scored and his eyes tested, and how could you tell so young if he would be a good enough specimen of the breed to use at stud? All these things need to be considered by anyone before setting out on a breeding plan, and all this is if you find someone with a decent bitch to breed to.
Please reconsider you reasons for wanting to breed as I am involved in rescue the amount of choc labs with nervous temperament is frightening
(Not necesarily aggressive I woud like add) A Labrador should be a friendly outgoing temperament not at all nervy.
If you wish to email me I will gladly offer any help re: books etc)
