i have an 20 mth black and tan who is just starting to get her feathers some say the whole colours are slower to mature .not sure how much truth there is in that ........18 mths to 2 years is normal

his breeding lines will play a part as well to whether or not he has inherited a thick or long coat ....

My 10 month tri has feathering on ears, legs and tail, but not much on the body so far. It looks longer just after a bath, before it wraps itself round her body again. :-) Don't be in too much of hurry - my poor blenheim boy has such a magnificent coat he treads on his chest hair sometimes!!

was thinking the same thing Lucy my tri has always had a long coat and it tkaes ages to groom ..my wholecolours take 5 mins LOL

My blenheim boy Lou has so much body coat I strip dead coat out all the time & he pees on his chest hair My naughty boy has a different coat all together very very straight & just enough for the show ring LOL he pees on his front feahers rather than his chest !

It's just lucky he's got the proper fine coat instead of a thick bushy one that needs hours to make lie down for the show ring! He only takes 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours to wash and dry, whereas some people I have heard of taking more like 2 1/2 hours!!

To stop the fluffy bits on his haunches lie down? Never heard of it, I shall have to investigate :-) Usually I just put some conditioner on when washing him, then dry it very thoroughly. Tried a drying coat but it wasn't any good. I generally get most of it lying down now!
Snap. Both mine are black tans. Molly is not pure as she has white and her coat developed really quickly. Freya is 20 months old and a pure black tan and her coat is still developing. She still looks like a little puppy Bless her.
