(i think) Last night after coming home from night school both my dogs were very excited at me being home and were playing around my feet in the kitchen when i heard a squeel out of one of them. I told them to calm down and they both ran off into the living room. About 10 minutes later i was playing with the pup who is 6 months old and though it was strange that my other dog was no where to be seen. I walked into the living room and there he was licking his legs repeatedly with blood dripping from his mouth. On futher inspection it seems that a chunk had been bitten off the side of his tounge. The poor little thing was just sitting there feeling very sorry for himself with blood dripping from his mouth. Now what i'm not sure of is could he have bitten his tounge (do dogs bite there tounges???) or did the pup do this to him (it did look suspiciously like a small bite). If she did do this then i'm quite scared as it seems quite a violent act from a small puppy, it could have been an accident but a chunk was bitten clean off. She is around the age for her first season so could it be her hormones making her aggressive, she's fine with me and my partner. Please help at the moment i'm so upset with her but i don't even know if she did it at all......
It must have been a bit of a shock and horrible to see your other dog with blood dripping from his mouth.
It sounds from your description as if the dogs were playing around your feet, and one perhaps caught the other one or maybe there was a collar caught up somewhere? Thusthe squeal and the blood and missing chunk. Dogs are like us and can bite their tongues.
The main question is, how are the dogs now and do they seem OK with each other? if there's no sign of any problem, i'd be very surprised if it was anything but an accident plain and simple. The injured dog may be a little worried by the pup in case of getting hurt again, but otherwise there should be no signs of problems as such :)

Hi Lindsay, thanks for your reply. It was an awful shock as it took nearly two hours to stop bleeding!!! They seem fine together now, we were trying to keep them apart at first but as soon as i let her in the garden he was standing at the door moaning to go our with her so he seems okay. Hopefully it was just an accident and she's not going to turn into a little critter. Thanks again. Kay

just keep an eye on how they are together i sounds like
an accident, but sometimes, my dogs go mad,if i have been in
work longer, than expected. They do tend to get a bit rough
with each other, trying to get my attention. ( Who is top dog?)
I have the same routine everytime i come in greet any humans
(family! not burglars) first. then the dogs. zoe gets hello first then daisy
both get a treat together after that.
