I understand that she wants to disguise her doggy odour (4 year old field bred Springer) but twice now she has rolled on different fox carcasses and that means she has to be washed where she's rolled.  She goes deaf when I try to call her off and is so pleased with herself!  And she eats horse poo.  I think she'd eat dog poo too but I've stopped her - so far.  Any ideas?  Is it an old country tradition to leave fox carcasses in hedgerows?  The fields behind my house have got two carcasses that I've found so far - never seen this before.  Thanks

Welcome to the mysterious world of dog ownership :D Perfectly normal behavior as far as I'm concerned. Disgusting but normal ;)

Shampooing with tomato ketchup in the final rinse will get rid of the fox smell! :)

Training is not my department. ;)

I had an IW bitch who was totally unable to resist fox scat. In the end she used to come home after a good roll and step into the bath herself. :)

I thought dogs rolling in horrible, gut wrenchingly smelly things was normal? My shar-pei does it, her daughter didn't, but loved to roll in long grass and my tibetan mastiff puppy will roll in anything at the slightest provocation. He particularly loves to go up freshly mowed embankments and roll down head first. And he's a big fan of horse poo - I've never owned a dog that could resist eating it given a chance.

Short of keeping the dog on a 3 feet long lead all her life or developing eyes in the back of your head, the only advice I can give you is develop a sense of humour as you're going to need it - he-he!

Both my boys do it, they get the hosepipe treatment as soon as we get home. Ugh! My puppy so far is a good girl though! :-)

My little angel rolled in Badger poo last night - and she was on the lead at the time :(

my dog walker told me that she caught my dog rolling in something nasty last week - a hedgehog.  All of the dogs were at it but mine was the only one who got caught with a hedgehog spike sticking out her back!

My Spanish do it with a big grin on their face.  Unfortunately it's extremely normal and there's not a lot that you can do to stop it :d

Hollie did that last week! Well I have no idea what poo it was but she was on the lead and just threw herself into a death roll in this poo. Unlucky for me it was all over her harness right at the clasp!
Raffie never rolls in stuff but she does. The smellier the better.

Thanks everyone.  I realise it's normal, it's just disgusting and bitches seem to do it more than dogs, infact, I've only ever had one other bitch - and she rolled in everything, and two dogs, who didn't.  Maybe the girls see it as putting on their perfume?  Eau de Rotting Fox - lovely.  Guess I'll just have to poke up with it - or get her a wetsuit.

Unfortunately it is a very doggy thing to do. Nothing to be done about it. My dog has eaten foxes poo at least four or five times. One tip other than washing and brushing their teeth afterwards - carrot takes away the smell on their breath. I always have one handy in the fridge just in case. Only other thing I can say is you'll have to live with it. Sorry.
