Hello,
I have a beautiful 5yr yellow labrador retriever, hips 6 & 4 eyes clear and from the Drakeshead line, who should be comming into season in 2 - 3 weeks, I would love to breed her once to allow her the full course of life. I have been told by my vet she is in perfect health and would have no problems with a pregnancy.
This part of dog ownership is completely new to me and I would value any advice, help or tips you may have to offer.
Ultimately I am looking for a good mate with suitable hip scores and problem free eyes to mate her with.

Looking forward to your reply.

Regards

Joe Lennon

Hi Joe. Your best bet is to get in touch with the Halsteads who have the Drakeshead line, who'd be best able to advise you. However, 5 is on the old side for a first litter. Remember there are over 40,000 labrador puppies registered each year (and probably an equal number unregistered). That's a lot of pups chasing the good homes. If you have a litter you may well find yourself with several puppies left over that don't sell straight away, and need to be kept for a few weeks (or months) more.

Does your vet breed dogs, by the way?
