hi everyone, i bred my bitch 0n 24/08 and on 26/08  so now she should be on day 33 or 31 i had her scanned on day 30 from first mating but the vet said she couldnt see any puppies, but agrees she looks very much showing signs of pregnancy pink swolen teats and instead of having a tight tucked up belly she has quite flabby droopy teats the breeder that is working along side me says dont give up hope as she could be carrying high but surely scanning at 30 days wouldnt it be possible to see as the vet told me you can see pups on scans as early as day 17 she is a maiden bitch so i would imagine she wouldnt look large in the belly just yet, just wondered if anyone else had been told there were no pups but went on to have a litter any info would be greatly appreciated, Also if it was a false pregnancy do the signs run accordingly with a real pregnancy as information i have found goes on about the later stages as in the end when they would be feeding the pups once again many thanks.

Depends how good the vet is at scanning.  The average vet may not be that good, adn I ahve never relied on anything but confirming pregnancy, whereas some experienced people are quite accurate with number of pups.

Yes I had a bitch scanned and was told there were 3 or 4 pups, she had 10 so the vet missed 6 or 7. :)

I had a bitch scanned by a sheep scanner (much more accurate than most vets) and he confirmed no puppies. Had a scan by the vets this time and they saw 3, she had 6. I wouldn't give up hope yet as my girl was small during the whole pregnancy and my husband was gobsmached that she had 6 we had no idea where she was keeping them and they were all good weights too. Don't give up hope yet.

I had my bitch scanned at 5 weeks using a sheep scanner, she said there were eight pups and Lottie went on to produce 8 pups. I agree with Chocaholic that they are much more accurate than vet scanners especially as all she does is scan, day in day out. Of all the  breeders I know that have used her, she has a 100% accuracy record.

My bitch had false pregnancies after each season and I could definitely tell the difference when she was pregnant, so if she is looking heavier, larger teats, etc. I would say there is a fair chance she IS pregnant. If you would like the number of the professional scanner let me know and I will PM you.

My friend had her bitch scanned and was told she had missed, then she produced puppies all over the kitchen floor with the whelping box still in pieces in the loft!!!

In reply to your post (deleted by admin, I assume because breed was mentioned and could be deemed to be advertising), my bitch, who was a maiden, started showing clearly by about 5 weeks although it was a gradual increase in size (her undercarriage dropped first then she started widdening), by 7-8 weeks she was pretty big and by the time she gave birth looked like a sack of potatoes on legs!
