my 2.5year old jack russell bitch  is not very well  she has had diahorrea with some blood through it since friday morning I have spoken to the vets nurse and I was to  feed her a little scrambled egg on friday night which she wolfed down as she was hungry. Yesterday(saturday)I was a bit more concerned for when I let her out it was like projectile diahorrea from her again with a little bllood through it  so I  called my  vet  again to be told starve her for 24hours  if no better take  her to the  vets Monday  but I let her  out this morning and  she  still  has diahorrea. The past  two mornings I woke up to a mess in my  kitchen. She is lively enough  playing etc except  for the diahorrea I have to try  her on a litlle light meal later today ie scrambled egg  Any other  ideas  welcome  I hate to see my  dog  like  this

I would stay away from egg!

Eggs are something that IME you should stay well away from in cases of diarrhoea, after all your dog may have salmonella or campylobacter so giving eggs is not terribly sensible.

I would fast her and offer her at most live yoghurt with some tree bark powder/slippery elm.

Do not worry if she is drinking ok.

If she is NOT drinking then you should be worried.

Putting some Lectade or Dioralyte in the water can help ensure that her blood salts are kept at an even equilibrium.#

thanks  tohme I havent seen or heard  her  drinking  but thats  not  to say  that  she  isnt having a drink at  night I was  also  told  to give her  some  milky  puddings  ie  rice  custard or semolina but not  sure about this.If she is no better in the morning  I will be taking her to  the vets. I dont allow her to  eat  anything  on the  roads  or pavements  when  we  out  walking not that  I  have walked her much  in the  last  couple   days   just  to the  back garden  is all and I  cant say  that she  has  eaten  anything at  home  to make  her this  way

IMHO I would stay away from any dairy products, particularly milk.  This is not recommended for dogs or humans with diarrhoea!

It causes it........!

Live yoghurt is good because it has been pre digested by bacteria and has plenty of good bacteria.

Dogs, like us, can go days without eating as long as they are drinking.

When my boy had an upset stomach I was told to starve him for 24 hours and then give a small meal of chicken and rice, and that seemed to work ok. If he's got recurrent diarrhoea with blood it might be something the vet needs to see though.
