Help! Its Sunday morning - no shops openand I've just found a tic in my puppy's ear. I don't have a tic hook or even know how to use one. What can I do?
Hi...
do you have a pets at home near you? they are open on a sunday and sell the removers. :)
I have heard that others put vaseline on the tic to suffocate it so it dies and falls off if they havent the hook remover. I have not tried that method as when i found a tic i went out next day and bought a remover hook. :)

Vaseline as suggested.
Hair spray (cover eyes and remove dog from area once sprayed!)

Spray it directly with Frontline. If you haven't any, then soak some cotton wool in spirit of some kind (surgical spirit, meths, even vodka!) and smother the tick with that to kill it. Take care not to squeeze the tick or you'll 'inject' the dog with the tick's fluids.

Jane and Kai:
I'l go to Pets at Home later today to buy tic hook. Hope I can learn how to use it properly!
Ice Queen:
I had a little Vaseline left so put that on in the meantime. But I do have a full can of hair spray, so might resort to using that later.
Jeangenie:
She was only Frontline'd last Wednesday, but I'm sure the tic has been there for the past couple of weeks. I thought it was a little scab from a bite from one of the other puppies.
How long does it take before it dies the horrible death it deserves for getting fat on sucking the blood out of my puppy' ear???!!
Thanks to you all for the very quick replies! This is a great site, especially for us inexperienced puppy owners..

The hook's quite obvious how to use, just slide it under the tick and twist it round and round until the disgusting thing falls off, then stamp on it quickly!!!!! Hope you got rid of it ok, horrible things! :-(
