Hi, Could anyone please tell me how much i should be feeding my 7 month old german shepherd. The dry food that i am giving him says he should be feed about 555g a day, but he always seems to want more. Is this normal for them to want more or is it that hes not getting enough. I have a rottie cross who only eats what she wants if shes had enough she wont eat any more so im not sure if he is just greedy or that he is not getting enough food. Please help : -

which brand of food are you feeding?  for most dry foods you give about 40-50 gramms of food per kg of body weight. so if your pup weighs 15 kg you should feed about 600-750 gramms. best to get your dog weighed and feed on that rather than guidlines on the package. its only a recommendation they give on the package anyway and you should always feed acourding to condition, if he looks healthy he is probably getting enough. i used to have a gsd bitch and she'd eat until she was ready to explode if you let her while our male would only eat what he wanted and leave the rest.

good luck

If its burns 20grms per kg :)

that's why i said 'most'. burns isn't exactly a brand you can buy in a supermarket, but one of those superdigestible foods that's only available at the vets( at least where i live). most people still use the 'cheap' stuff available in the supermarket or petstore, for which the average recommended amount is 40 to 50 gramms per kg.

LOL there are two pet feed shops near me that sell it, guess that makes me lucky :D
i didnt realise they sold it though til i actually started looking for it, but then how many times have we all been in shops got what we want without looking at other things lol  :) ( my pup was weened on it)

yeah, makes you lucky alright. i live in clare , ireland and here there is only one stockist i could find, which is a pity as this particular vets office is only open for like an hour a day (and it seems to be a different hour every day!) which is annoying and inconvenient. the petshops only stock science plan?? and the other has a contract with eukanuba, two foods i won't feed. my young lady now gets redmills leader puppy. she seems to love it and looks great. burns is a great food but not everyone can get their paws on it.

I have just started to feed him the new pets at home puppy food for large breed dogs before that he was on tinned puppy food. Hes in great condition hes very active and he does not appear to be under weight hes been on this food for about 4 days now and hes seemed to be very settled on it now, hes not looking for more food like he was and he seems to be more happy after hes been fed if that makes any sence lol. Hes now beeing fed twice a day on dried foof before it was 3 times. Thank you all for your great advice it was most appreciated.
