Topic Dog Boards / General / Halti question
- By KeiraAlphaByron [gb] Date 18.09.05 10:17 UTC
Well, one of my dogs uses the Canac Gentle Leader which I have absolutely no problem with as it is made out of soft material and doesn't ride up into his eye. The other boy uses the Halti and I must say, I've never known so much rubbish for a dog to wear on his head! Alpha seems to wear it more on his eye with all his skin bunched up on one side than he does wear it normally. I did swap the Halti and Gentle Leader round but the same happened again.

I seem to remember a post from some time ago with people recommending a halter that deosn't ride into the eye and doesn't disform all the skin on the dog's face.

Could someone enlighten me to what these are called?

Thanks.

Alot of people find the dogmatic good.  I use the dog alter from kumfi pets which I find brilliant on Alfie :)

I tried the Dog Alter on my Yankee but the nose band was too tight and was non adjustable. I bought a Halti instead with adjustable nose band, and although the strap runs near his eyes it is just about ok. He doesn't wear it very often though as he hates it!! :-D

Don't suppose any of them are any use on Cavaliers - noses too short!?

I would say the nose band on the dog alter is more adjustable than the halti, did you have the right size ?

I use a dogmatic and find it perfect for charlie as in it doesn't ride up atall like the gentle leader did.

Hi, KBA

I would also recommend the Dogmatic.  The Halti rides up and was rather fragile in my hands (dropped two and broke the plastic clasps also one of my two dogs got enough purchase on the under-chin loop to bite through it.  Dogmatic is more expensive but sits comfortably in place and is much more robust.

Dogmatic every time. It definitely doesn't ride up, and I think I have tried most headcollars on the market. I have only had them a few weeks but would recommend them, although the dogs don't like them much (but they didn't like the others either!).

Ok, thanks for that! I'll go for the Dogmatic soon!

Yep i've said it to , halti is rubbish and "cheap" feeling. Gentleleader is perfect

The Gentle leader was very good until I put it on the younger one. He's so crafty and managed to keep on escaping from it. but, what on earth is all the rant over the Halti about. It is complete rubbish.

By the way Admin, that was my view and not those of everyone else on CD so dont have a go at me for saying that lol
