Does anybody elses vet use glue to stick the skin back together after an op? I seem to have the only vet around doing this, as nobody I talk to believes it can be done.
Last year when my dog had a pyo, she was operated on and her wound was glued together, it worked really well, she does not have a scar and you would be hard pushed to know she has ever had an operation. Not only did it not leave a scar, but she recovered much quicker than any animal I have ever had operated on, there were no red sore looking places either.

My dog had a barbed-wire gash mended with glue and my son had a head wound superglued back together!  Of course it can be done!  Its effective and much less invasive than stitching.  The doctor told me that the glue they use isn't too dissimilar to the superglue you buy in the DIY shop either!

I was begining to think I had imagined it all! lol Since nobody else I knew had seen this done.

My youngest had a nasty gash on the back of his head glued, much better than stitches and less painful for him :) Never heard of it on animals though, sounds like a good idea :)

I think you'll find that superglue was originally invented for use on wounds for people in the forces / war zones !  So yes, it is quite commonly used and is also prooving very popular in veterinary practices - animals can have a reaction to subcutaeneous stitches so it makes sense really to use it.

You can find out more about this here

You can even buy 'liquid elasstoplast' over the counter nowadays that works in a similar way. Apparently it stops the air getting to the severed nerves in your skin when you cut yourself and thus is less painful. Face it, you can end up supergluing your fingers or eyelids together and need them medically parting, so why wouldn't a similar product work on wounds?

My Labrador bitch was glued together after being spayed.  I too had never met anyone else who's dog had been glued after an op.  I have to say that it was an excellent result, she never once bothered at the wound, I imagine because it wasn't itchy and there weren't any stitches pulling.  She didn't even know she'd had a major operation and everything healed brilliantly.   I have spoken to other people that use the same vet as me and nobody else I know has had this with their dog.  It has to be much better than stitching, but maybe it isn't suitable for all types of dog.
