Hi, we are a family living in the North West of England looking for a darker colour golden retriver puppy.  Does anyone know if there are any upcoming litters of this colour as we are finding it hard to find the darker coloured golden.  Are they rare?  Please help.  We would prefer to collect in January or later.  Thankyou.  Other than answering this post you can contact us at sandyedis@hotmail.com.

Hi Guest,

No they are not rare, there are plenty of mid gold to darker gold it just depends what the breeders dogs colouring are that they have in their kennel at the time.  I'm in Lincolnshire I have mainly mid gold to slightly darker but I also have very pale gold and cream in my kennel.

You need to look at several breeders make sure any potential pups parents have had all the necessary health checks and excellent temperaments then look at colour you may have to wait maybe up to year for the right dog however you could lucky and get one sooner than this if your prepared to do your research and perhaps travel further for the right dog.

There are plenty of excellent kennels up and down the country breeding Goldens within the acceptable colour range of the breed standard.

A golden Retriever should be any shade of gold or cream BUT never be white eg of a samoyed nor rred or mahogany eg Red Setter.

You can start by doing a search on thiis of Breeders.

Hope this helps good luck,

Briony :-)

I think you'll find that most of the rich golden colours are in working Golden lines.

Hi,

Yes there are, however there are also fair amount of darker gold colour in the showring too around the country just depends whose got what out at different times of year ;-)

Sometimes it appears they're only seems to be cream in the showring with little mid gold other times
it seems more mid to darker gold in the rings with some cream.

But agree generally the working strains do tend to be darker in colour.

Briony :-)
