I never did use one for any of my bitches that were speyed. So long as you can keep an eye on her so that she doesn't lick the stitches, or tries to remove them, I'd take it off. Though if you go out I'd put it back on for a while. Just in case ;)

never used one and ive just had a bitch speyed well eight weeks ago. i never saw her even try to lick her wound. take it off and watch your girl and if you need to leave her for a while just slip it back on.

I only had one of my bitches who worried about her stitches. (Most of them haven't bothered with them at all.) The vet recommended she wore a t-shirt when I wasn't with her. It worked brilliantly, and didn't upset her.

My saluki x HAATED hers and refused point blank to move whilst wearing it.

For 8 hours.

I made her a sort of jacket with a teeshirt that tied up along the back and covered the stitches (she had a lto as she had lumps removed as well).

This sorted her,a lthough i DID have to keep an eye on her.

If you can definately be with the dog all teh time the collar is off, then tahts ok to take it off, if NTO, then dont, as a dog can do a LOT of damage by removing their stitches.

Beano did this after he was castrated. He had to wear one as he wasnt licking his stitches, he was licking just behind them and making it sore.
As soon as i put it on he didnt move. I had to take it off every hour and put him on a lead so he would toilet,or eat then as soon as i put it back on he would stop moving. had to leave him at mums while i was at work (was going to take him to work with me but it wasnt fair on him the way he was)
Left it on for about a week, until i took him back to vets to check his stitching.
Lea :)
