OK i have what might be a problem, but i'm not sure.
Kai wears a halti head collar for walkies. i have only been using it the last 2 weeks and whilst its certainly helped stopping him from pulling in all directions, i have noticed a strange noise.
Every time he pulls his head down to sniff the ground, he makes what can only be described as snorting noises.( think pigs routing in the ground)
Is this to do with the head collar or something else?
He only does it whilst sniffing and walking at the same time, the rest of the time he's fine.

any ideas?

Yep, Alfie does this when wearing his head collar :)

Only one of mine wears a head collar but they both do it. Thinking about it, my friends leos' do this as well :)

Thanks for that :) .... OH thought the head collar might be crushing airways when he pulls down hence the noise, i said dont be so daft its solid where the strap goes,..... to which he'd replied use the walking harness :rolleyes:
Yeah ok ... thats ok for some dogs, but kai's a mal and i want him to pull in harness but not out on walkies, hence head collar for walkies and harness for pulling that way he doesnt get confused about what he's supposed to be doing..... Men!!

I didnt think the noises where a problem but thought i'd check to see if others get the same noises with their dogs in head collars..... after all it is possible that OH could actually be right once in awhile i suppose LOL :D

Not to worry!  What you describe as "Piggy Snorting" by your dog is perfectly normal.  What your dog is doing is reading the 'smells'.  Dogs use their noses to see who or what has been in their area almost as mush as their eyes.
What they are doing when "snorting", is expelling air out through their nose and puffing air onto a smell that interests them and by doing so blow the smell into the air so that they may get a better scent.

It was just the fact that he only ever makes the noises when he has his head collar on, any other time he's intently sniffing he doesnt make that noise. Hence OH blamming the head collar.
the other 3 dogs that i've had didnt seem to make the noise either from what i can remember :)
