Hi.
If I remember your pups still a youngster. All you can do is keep practising in the garden and at ringcraft. I had it with both of mine when they were young and you get there eventually. Put aside five minutes each day if you can and practise running the dog in the garden.
I use the phrase 'head up' consistantly and it worked. When your dog puts her head down say ' head up' followed by a little check. When I started taking my pups to shows when they were six months. The smell of something new was too much to ignore but as you go to more shows and the dog understands more what you want it to do it will click into place.
I started showing early in the year when most shows were inside. Eventually got it cracked. Then came the outdoor on grass shows and it started all over again.
The main thing is think that your first few shows are for the dog to learn and yourself to get to grips. Don't take them seriously. Learn from each show where you went wrong and which areas you need to concentrate on. When your in a general open show and in puppy you might have your six month puppy against an 11 month old. Six months in showing and training is a hell of a difference. A judge should expect a youngster to be playful or it will sit down whilst they are going over it.
Don't be self concious about what you or your dog does, enjoy it and have a laugh. With consistant training you will get there.
Let us know how you get on at your first show.

When you say under her chin, do you mean holding her head up from above with the lead? 'Coz if you do that then yes she's going to fight against it.  Use a all-in-one or chain and have the ring so that it's underneath her chin. That way, it won't slip down her neck and the only time it'll tighten is when you allow it to...i.e. when she puts her head down.  I have to say though, I've never seen pugs (I take it that's the breed in question) shown this way so it might be something breed-specific.

Hi luvapug, to give her the general idea, try baiting her as you move her, either with food or a toy, simply holod it in yhour right hand, up and in front, as you walk, it gives you a bit of a stiff neck/back, but tends to work wiht pugs.  Suually, pugs go on quite a loose lead, not strudn up, so it is important to work hard on this.  By jerking her head and trying to hold it up with the lead it jsut gives her something to fight against.
bye
