I took the dogs for a walk this afternoon beside the small stream near me. I felt an awful sharp pain in my upper thigh (almost on the b*m!) Then another. OUCH - I've been bitten or stung and can't sit down now. HELP! Does anyone have a remedy for insect stings/bites that I can use. Please note I can't see where to put anything I have to use a mirror, which isn't funny ;)

Sorry to here that Linda , is  a bit funny though!!!!!   I am trying to ge these pictures out of my head of you applying ointment to your other end!!!!!!

Poor you :( For conventional, I have used Eurax cream from the chemist or Supermarket, it takes the itchiness out of bites.

But if they're sore, albeit nobody recommended it to me, I use neat Lavender oil. Be careful if you have sensitive skin as it can sometimes irritate, in which case dilute it with a carrier oil - 4 parts oil to 1 of Lavender.

Hope they soon calm down ;)

I use Piriton as I have an EXTREME reaction to wasp stings.....

Witch hazel is very good or even vinegar I have heard is good as well but be warned it will sting more at first

Witch hazel is excellent, or something with both witchhazel and tea tree in it......the initial sting means it working! Well it does in my books anyway :D

I can't remeber which way round it is but a bee sting and a wasp sting is different, one is alkali and one is acidic, if you know exactly what it was that stung you, then you could pehaps find out which way round it is, but if you have no idea what stung you, I wouldn't recommend vinegar, if the poison is acidic and you put vinegar on it, it will do more than sting a little bit!

Raw onions on bee, wasp stings work a charm.... My father inlaws was batting at a wasp with those electric fly swatters and he hit it right towards me and the dang wasp stung me on the lip. Should of seen my lip it was swollen and boy did it hurt, my mother inlaw gave me a raw cut up onion to put on it and it brought the swelling down and the pain wasn't too bad.

Hi folks. It wan't a bee or a wasp, just some horrid little flying bug :( I took Clarityn as soon as I got home (I suffer from spring/summer hay fever, but not Autumn ;) )It helped a little. I also put on cream, wa just looking for an alternative. I don't know if I want to try vinegar, what if it makes it worse? :) Still can't sit down properly. Should have seen me drive to the shops Not funny :D Now, where did I put the rubber ring before the days my youngest learnt to swim...

What about Germoline its got an Anasthetic in it?

Hairypooch. Thanks for the thought on the cream, I found some that my daughter left behind when she moved out last week. It worked! Now I just have to cope with the itching. It's not sore anymore, just itchy ;) At least I can sit down again :D

LOL LindyLou. Anyway I hope it wasnt Blackthorn 'cos that often gets infected. Trust me I have sat on a thorn and it is not funny, no matter what all the guys in the beating line said (of course I got all the puns about little pricks )

A certain someone appears to be planning a surprise early start to her season, she is not due for at least 3 weeks but judging by the number of admirers she is getting on our walks, I think it could be sooner :D   

When I was in cuba I was mosquitos favourite person, and I kept putting ice on the bite, it took the sting out, everything wanted me to scratch even more

We have a huge Aloe vera plant, it has great soothing powers for stings and bites and having 4 children it's been used often, you just snip the end of the leaf off and dag the sticky moisture onto the sting, within minutes the sting has settled and the swelling disappears.

I was speaking to my pups breeder today (pup is in her kennels with her litter sister, who just happens to have come into season too :) ) and she advised Aloe Vera, so I'll be off to get some in the morning. Nothing else is taking the itchiness away :( Sitting here, trying not to scratch. AAAAARRRGGGHHH

Get an Aloe plant for your kitchen windowsill!  It helps with all sorts of things and is so much cheaper than buying it in the bottle! ;)

But then you have to remember to water it ;)

Could it have been a horsefly bite?  they are really nasty and itch like crazy :(   hope its getting better by now.

One of my dogs was stung by something the day before yesterday in the garden, he ran in and flung himself at me, bless!  He even showed me the area, by his mouth and all swelling up.  Couldn't find a sting in it, but there were two tiny marks so probably a wasp :(   It must have been so painful but he let me feel it and check it out, and then took piriton like a good un.  He was so good I felt all choked up, if it had been me I wouldn't let anyone touch it and I'd have made such a fuss
