Fruit & Veg from some Supermarkets is at least a year old before it hits the shelfs. Considering where in the world it comes from and then the "cold store" that houses it for eons, it's not surprising that it has no taste to it and starts to degrade in the car on the way home :rolleyes:

When I really have to buy fruit & veg from the Supermarket, I try to make sure that it's all local produce for 2 reasons, one, I'm contributing a penny or two to the local producers (if that, by the time they've had their arms twisted up their backs and hammered down to bare minimum prices by the big giants) and two, it's not as likely to have been put in cold storeage for the same amount of time as the rest of their offerings.

Occasionally I buy the organic F+V and it's much tastier but oh so very expensive. I'd really like to start buying cornfed/organic or whatever they call it chicken especially after all the talk of antibiotics being pumped into the cheaper stuff, but again , it's the cost. Obviously a way around it is to eat it less often. My sister-in-law is a nutritionist and won't have anything that isn't organic- even wine- she swears you don't get a hangover with the stuff!!

Have a look around your local area at other than supermarkets. 

I buy REAL Cheddar cheese, not that waxy stuff that the supermarkets sell for less than supermarket prices!  I buy organic veggies at 50p a bundle - he weighs then before he sells them!  I buy a TRAY of free range eggs for £1.30!!  All in one place on a Sunday morning.

I eat very well AND pay a fraction of the supermarket prices!! :)
