Hello everyone
Have done a search on this but can't find exactly what Im looking for so I wonder if anyone can help.  My puppy is 19 weeks old now and hasn't had an accident inside for about 5 weeks however today I went home (After leaving him for 2 1/2 hours as I do every morning) and he had pooed on the carpet!  Dont understand why as he has never been for a poo in the house before not even at 9 weeks when he had no idea of housetraining.  Feel a bit at a loss as to what to do now - do I need to go back to crating him?  He was doing so well!  We've just started giving him access to the lounge while we are out do you think we progressed to this too soon? He didn't eat much last night and wouldn't go this morning before I left him, maybe he just got caught out and had to go? Any ideas as to how to approach this would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Rach x

He may just have been caught out and didn't have any choice.  As you have just given him access to the lounge he may well not consider this as part of his home so didn't realise he was not meant to use it as a toilet.  I'd just keep an eye on him and if he shows any sign of wanting to go just get him outside.

Don't forget he is still a very young puppy and likely to make occaisional 'mistakes'.

You have done so well as to get so far so quickly. My pup was a right dirty little man and it took a while to get him housetrained.
The fact that he didn't eat much last night and couldn't go this morning suggests as previous replyer that he couldn't hold himself. Put it down to an accident and carry on.
If he has done so well so far, don't go back to putting him in his crate but perhaps restrict him to the room the crate is in. Ideal is the kitchen.
Pat yourself on the back that you have worked hard to this point and the results have paid off. Keep to the routine you are doing and accept the fact that he will have accidents from time to time for various reasons. The beauty of having a dog.

Thanks to both of you for your positive responses - Definitely feel reassured now that it isn't quite the disaster that i convinced myself it was at 11am this morning!  I think we've been quite lucky so far in that he was really quick to learn and we were lulled into a false sense of security.  Oh well, onwards and upwards!
