I posted yesterday, and thanks for everyone who replied, it was really useful.

I last fed my pup at 6pm, and I didn't crate him until 11pm, after he had been outside and he went for a poo. I thought great!! BUT I set my alarm and got up around 3am, let him out he went for a wee, and I put him straight back in his crate. Only to get up at 6.30am, to find he had pooed in his crate again!!!!!!!!!

I really don't understand why he is doing this?? I am having to bath him every day.

Please please someone help.

Thanks in advance.

Hi
i have just read your other post and your pup is only 9wks old he's still a baby with no real control over pee's and poo's yet.
When my pup was that age ( now 8mths old) i was out of bed a cpl of times a night for those first few weeks before he learnt to make a noise to wake me up if he needed toilet.
Try altering the time you get up to catch him before he has to go, it will be trial and error to start with.

Why dont you join its free, and then you can get lots more help

Is the crate quite big?  We bought a crate big enough to take an adult dog.  We were advised to block off more than half of the crate while our pup was young.  Her bedding took up about the space of an apple box and we blocked off the rest with strong cardboard.  The explanation was that dogs won't mess in their own bed but if the crate is large they may step 'out' of bed (what they perceive the bedding area to be) and mess in the extra area of crate.  Not very well explained but anyway it worked for us.  However, still got up in the night to let her out to 'go' while she was tiny.

Give it time and patience. Your pup is still only young and cannot fully control it's bowels and bladder. Those muscles will develop as he grows.

For now make sure you take him out every single hour. You have to go out with him to ensure he gets that praise and titbit when he soils outside. If he hasn't, then put him back in his crate for 10-15 minutes and repeat. Once he has been let him have the run of the house for 30-40 mins and then take him out or put him on his crate and repeat the process.

Put a cardboard box in his crate, to ensure it is small enough for him to lie down, sit up and turn around, but not so big that he will choose one side to rest and the other side to toilet.

The main point though, is to relax about this and just be patient and take it at your puppy's pace. It will take a few weeks for the pup to understand that he needs to hold it until he is taken outside. You will only achieve this by taking him out every hour (and after play), supervising him all of the time or by having him in his crate when you cannot supervise him.

All the best ,
Patty
